CC Xmsn/Windshield Problems

We bought a new 2005 Country Coach Inspire 330 in February. When we bought it, it had 1,500 miles on the odometer. We've since driven it about 4,000 miles.

We liked our coach initially, but our elation turn south when we began to have problems with the Allison transmission which was recently repaired at Pacific Power in Coburg, OR. Lately, we've had problems with our windshield. This is a horror story that requires too much detail in this forum, but the bottom line is that CC must remove the windshield, reform the frame, install a new and identical windshield on one side, and reseal it. This problem was discovered when wind began whistling through our coach through the windshield at the driver side upper left corner.

The windshield and transmission problems were the most serious, but we've also had many minor problems, some of which should have been caught and corrected at the factory when the coach was built.
For example, a metal strip came loose from one of our slides, due to lackof sufficient adhesive. An interior wood cover was discovered to have screws in it that did not penetrate wood and was thus just hanging in place by a one screw. One screw hole had two screws in it, one short and one long, and the screw heads overlapped. We presented CC with a list of about 20 discrepancies we wanted fixed, and most of them are being addressed.

CC has a good support team, and there has been little equivocation about fixing problems we've found. We've found that to be true of the vendors we've dealt with, also. CC must improve its quality program at the factory. There was no effective quality program in place when our coach was built.

We are presently at Holiday Express in Florence, OR, courtesy of CC where we have been since Friday. CC estimates repairs on our windshield will be completed Monday. We're not sure at this point whether we would buy another Country Coach or not. The builder who has the best quality program will be a big consideration when we buy our next coach. Right now, CC falls flat in that vital area.

I presume this is your first coach. Our Intrigue is our first coach but 6th RV. We fulltime and talk to lots of other RV owners. You are not going to find a coach with much better factory quality control than CC. CC could definitely improve their QC and they know it. They can improve their profit margin with less after sales fixes. You can bet they are working on improvements. You can find lots of coach manufacturers with much worse after sale support. We found a list of about 25 things with our coach. I corrected 15 of them myself. CC took care of the rest. Now, granted, we have not had any problem so far like your windshield problem but I think once you get through the first year bugs you'll enjoy the coach.

Of course they would like things to be better, but anything put together by humans or mechanical has the possibility to give us trouble. There is no such thing as the perfect coach, not even the Prevost can qualify. We were at a park where there was a Liberty Coach rally and out of 50 of them at least 1/2 had blue tarps over their slide outs because they leaked. We put these coaches through a hurricane and earthquake at the same time and expect them to be perfect. Just isn't going to happen.
We own a SOB and be glad this is all the problems you have had. Not that it is easy to deal with but it could be a lot worse. And the fact that CC has a very good support team is worth its weight in gold and not many others will pay for you to be in a hotel while you wait for windshield repairs.
Have patients through your first year and work through the bugs and enjoy your RV.

What rally were you at that had 50 Liberty's of which 25 were slide outs? 25 blue tarps on Prevosts... C'mon, I don't buy it. I can't wait until the Liberty folks see this post! Tom

We got talking to the Prevost owners across the street and got to talking about price differences etc. between a much lesser expensive coach and the big daddies out there. Several had blue tarps and I asked why and it was these Prevost owners that told me about the leaky slides. I didn't count how many were still there from the rally, but took their word for it since they had been there they whole time. (we arrived the last day so many had left already). Their statement blew me away, I couldn't believe it either. I always thought they were made so much better than what we had, and over all I'm sure they are, but it did sound like many had similar problems as the hurry up production line coaches have. I'm not saying anything against the Prevost or any other coach. I think they are drop dead gorgeous and beautiful, would love one, but way out of our price range. Was just using them as an example of how any coach, no matter the price tag, can have problems. Wish it weren't true! I'm hoping we find a well built coach that has had some good QC along the line, but we also know that any coach can have problems.

Gary, sorry to hear about your issue with your Inspire. Our coaches are not far apart as ours is 51499! We had some issues with oil leaking in the motor, not tranny or windshield issues as of yet.
I agree that there are many quality issues, but we have been able to work most of ours out now and have had some very good trips with our coach recently. We are going out again this weekend towing the trailer to a car race again, dry camping and what not has been good.
As others here have suggested, give it some time to work out the bugs and you will be pleased I think. Don't stop helping CCI though, they need fedback to improve, otherwise things will remain the same.

Thanks for the encouraging words. We're hoping you and others who have made similar comments are right. We're anxious to get back into our coach and head down the Oregon Coast for some wonderful sightseeing. Glad to hear that you are enjoying your coach.

Thanks for the encouraging words. As someone said, everything is relative. I suppose it's human nature that causes us to think that our problems are worse than anyone elses, but as you said, "it could be a lot worse," and of course you're right.

You're welcome. When you are dealing with the problems, it is not easy. We've had several broken windshields replaced in our SOB due to the front cap not being put on correctly. (We stopped the whistling by putting duct tape over the space between the glass and the center rubber gasket). The factory finally figured out what the problem was and it has been fine ever since, but it was a chore! This coach has been practically rebuilt after production because of major problems. So I feel your frustration......as the saying goes, been there, done that! Good luck with repairs so you're on the road again soon.
We are torn between keeping this one and starting over with a whole set of new problems but we keep telling ourselves it can't get much worse than this one was in the beginning.
