Extented Warranty Companies

I was wondering if anyone could give me some companies that offer extented warranties. I've been looking, but guess I don't know how to word it correctly to find them.
Thanks, John 04 Allure#31022

I have been very please with my DFS policy (Warranty Business Services Corp, Lyndon-DFS Warranty Business Services, St Petersburg FL).

The policy I have is the Platinum Motor Home Plan which is an EXCLUSIONARY POLICY -- meaning that everything is covered except those items specifically listed as excluded in the policy. Easy to read.
If it is not listed, it is included. Even covers Country Coach slide seals.

I once had a brand-x policy on a used automobile I purchased. When I had a transmission claim, both the repair service and myself would have to sit on hold for almost an hour to even report the problem.
From this experience, one test I would make with any company you buy from, is to call their customer service number and see how quickly they answer the phone and are ready to take a "trial" report. DFS has always been quick and impressive -- less than one minute.

I had a problem with a ride height valve in Newport OR. Replacement was quickly authorized with the $50 deductable. But the service department found another valve was also marginal, but did not have a second valve. So they called DFS, and reported that another valve was needed. I took to couch to Carriers in Junction City OR for replacement of the second valve. Since it was a continuation of the original repair, there was NO deductable.

Their mode of settlement with the repair facility is to give the facility a VISA card number to charge the repair to. No waiting for checks.

Their service number is 1-800-736-9196, opt 5, who I just called to check the expiration date on my policy. They can answer your questions.

I shopped around for the best price on this DFS policy. I paid $3,900 on this 7 yr, 70,000 policy. I normally avoid extended warranty or service plans, but less than $600 per year was good peace of mind.

As a side item. My other extended warranty that truely has proved worthwhile becasue of the price was a BEST-BUY 4 year extended warranty on my Magellan Roadmate 700 GPS. Their "GPS" policy was priced for the $200 units, but also applied to this $1299 (at that time) unit -- just $50. A mounting bracket broke, took it into BEST- BUY and they replace MY WHOLE UNIT complete with upgraded software.
Another friend also had the policy, with the same problem, but a different BEST-BUY in a different state -- total exchange of a 700 to the newer model 760 (that now contains campgrounds and rest stops).

Perhaps the most common is Good Sam. Another I got a good quote from is Warranty Direct. With any extended warranty, read the actual contract, not a sales brochure, before signing.
Make sure that it is a 'exclusionary' contract (covers everything EXCEPT what is listed) rather than 'inclusionary' (covers ONLY what is listed). Make sure the company actually covering the contract (often not the one selling it) AND their 'reinsurance' company are high quality.

After you sign up, make sure you follow the requirements to the letter. Some of these companies are out to cheat you, and some just want to make money at your expense. Good to do an internet search for complaints about the company before signing. Horror stories include one guy who had a refridgerator repair declined because he was 1000 miles late in changing his oil (all companies require factory maintenance to be done, but this case seems excessive) and another who was required to pay all costs of analyizing a blown engine to see if it was due to a covered cause. Another guy was told to have the work done and send the company the bill, only to have it rejected because the contract required all work to be approved before done.
