Overweight front end on '05 42' Allure w four slides CC#31207

After weighing our '05 Allure 42' fully equipped with 10 kw genertor and residential refrigerator, we found we were 600# overweight on the front axle. Since we are full timers there is not much we can throw out to decrease weight. After checking the CC manual with the factory weights we found there is only 900# of payload available on the front end.

I have been told if we lift up the front end 2inches or so this will increase the payload. Do any of you with '05 42' Allures have this same problem? Does CC have any fix for this? I noticed the '06 Allures only have one slide in front which probably solves this overweight problem.

We have a quad slide, fully equipped like you with a church organ behind the pilot chair on the slide. Haven't had the coach long enough to have it weighed, but I bet we're over on front too. We could move the organ to the back of that slide if it is too heavy since we do not have a table, but we'd have to move the cabinet that the table fits into.

Have either of you..42 ft allure...or anyone else, had a problem with that front driver side slide? It is a power gear slde. We have had to have the bolts replaced 4 times now. They shear off.
The last fix was done at Lazy Days, only a couple of weeks after replacing two sheared off bolts on that power gear slide. Our Allure is a 40', but I am wondering if you or anyone else is having this problem. This is the 4th time the bolts on that slide room have sheared
off.

YES! We've had the same problem. The only good thing is hubby can change the bolt and have us back in business in 5 minutes now.
Our slide problems were blamed on the weight of the organ by the dealership/repair service. But we think this started way before we took delivery of the coach.

IMHO the bolt broke somewhere along the line when the dealership was showing the coach (it has almost 5000 miles on it before we took delivery because they've showed it all over the country). To get it going again, they put in another bolt, but not necessarily the correct one. It in turn moved around creating a sharp edge on the metal it goes through and it would break another bolt. Each time they put a bolt in the hole, it created a sharper edge and larger hole and it got to where we could only get one in/out of the slide before it broke again.

We took the coach back to our selling dealer and they drilled a slightly larger hole in the metal getting rid of the sharp edge and installed a bolt that was very tight so it wouldn't re-create the sharp edge.

I have also noticed that when we push the slide button one side starts out or in a hair before the other side. I've seen this on other brands as well who have the electric slide motors. This uneven movement could put a lot of strain on the bolt and help break it, especially if it was loose like ours was until they made the hole a different size.

So far, so good with the repair. We also bought several replacement grade 8 bolts to carry with us. If this happens again we were going to see if we could have a heavier piece of steel fabricated where the problem is and see if it would work better.
It seems now that we are not the only ones with this problem and it can't be blamed on the weight of the organ.
Thanks for sharing for we thought we were probably creating this problem ourselves with what we carry with us.

We also had, twice, service replace the square piece of metal tubing that the bolts go through. We were told that it has nothing to do with weight, it happens because the slide needs to be adjusted. I have STILL not had mine adjusted, each service place is afraid to adjust it, they might make it leak they say. I don't know if anyone will ever be secure with adjusting it. The last service was at Lazy Days, and they replaced 4 bolts. I wonder if the bolt issue will be permanent then? CC tech just told me CC no longer uses the power gear slide, all slide outs are HWH. They have gone back to what they used to use. Prior to the past years with a power gear room all slides were HWH, per CC. We are not close to full weight and we have had to replace bolts and drill new holes in the pieces of new sq tube pipe they changed out 4 times so far. We do not have a mechanical bone in either of our bodies, so we must find someone to assisit us when it happens. Thanks M Bain

Thank you so much for the info. This will definitely be on our list when we visit CC in the spring. This confirms my suspicions that when one side starts a bit before the other it is causing incorrect movement due to slide adjustments.
I wish we could have afforded an '06 with all HWH slides and separate awnings.
