M&G Brake-------

Thanks for the replies, I feel I should add a bit of light on my original posting.

First I am going to a shop in Eugene, OR. their quote is for the complete system installed $1645. I called M&G direct and for the system alone was $845. so that leave $800. for labor, 5 hours they said, but I forgot they also will have to do about .5 hrs. on the coach so total of 5.5 hrs. $800 divided by 5.5 hrs. equals $145.45.
Still a big price shop rate. I understand that the $800. is probably a 'flat rate' but still that's a bunch for 5.5 hrs. work.

I understand these folks do quality work, and for that price they should. I don't mind paying for the best but the amount just struck me wrong.

If the M&G is the best then that is what I want, just thought there might be a close second that was less evasive to the car thus less labor cost to install. Not real crazy about them 'moving a bunch of stuff around' to get the system to fit.

Thanks, Larry

Larry, look up Hitch Pro and Tow in the phone book in Eugene, Or, they are off of 11th Street at the end of the Beltline. Ask for Ken, he is the owner, and get a price from him. He did mine for $800 (or maybe $900, I don't have the info right in front of me) and $350 for the breakaway. That was the cost for the system and the labor. In my opinion, you will not find anyone better than Ken to do your install. He has been at it for a long time....he has done the tow part of my CC's since 1998. Larry, you can also look on the Yahoo group CC site under the service center database and find the number for Hith Pro and Tow. Dale

Larry,

Please allow me to make one further suggestion in your effort to install the M&G system. Look for any toad where you are to see exactly how the systems is installed and what its dimensions are.
Then look at the Pilot to get a feel for how it will fit. Many Jeep Cherokees use the M&G so that should give you a good feel as to what is involved. Also, did you ask the boys in Athens if they have a system for the Pilot. Each car takes a unit unique to it because of mounting hole spacing etc. I agree with you that the labor "rate" if that is what it is, is very high. On the other hand, maybe they know how much work is involved in the unique Pilot installation and that is what they are really quoting. A friend of mine who is a very strong advocate of the M&G and has used it for many years bought a Pilot and found it was just too much trouble to install the M&G in it. He was not a happy camper but eventually had to go to a different system.
Good luck, keep us posted.

Just my 2cents

The first part of 2004 I had a blue OX tow mount a M&G brake system and the towed light system installed on my Honda for $1,695.00 out the door parts labor and tax. That also included putting the air fitting on the coach. They put 2 guys on it and was done at noon.
My point shop around.

Larry,

Have you ruled out the US Gear Unified Tow Brake? The system is probably not less evasive to your car, but is less evasive to your coach in that they don't tap into your air brakes.
The money is about the same as what your talking about and can be installed around the Eugene area.
When I had mine installed at Guaranty in Junction City, I assumed ( 2 years ago) that this was the best system. I am very pleased with my braking system so far.

I have this system also. It's as easy to hook up as the M&G and works fine from my perspective. It comes with a breakaway switch and you only have to hook up one wire. Once I rewire my trailer tow connector I will only have to plug one wire to get brakes and lights. I was nervous about letting anyone fool with the air line on my coach.

I had the M & G system installed on my 05 Honda Pilot by Hitch Pro and Tow last summer. They did excellent work and the system has worked flawlessly.
