2001 Intrigue: Galley slide leaking and out of alignment.

I purchased my 2001 Intrigue in March 2005 and had the galley slide wiper seal replaced because of dampness (leakage)found at the base of the driver's chair. After wiper seal replacement, I discovered the same dampness resulted after our first heavy down pour for the season.

I also noticed when the slide is in that it was out of alignment.
Standing outside the coach and looking at the slide, the upper left corner has a 1/8" gap with the coach wall frame, the upper right corner has a 3/8" gap, the lower left corner has a 3/8" gap (the leaker) and the lower right corner has zero clearance. In fact I had to use silicone spray and ease the slide in hydraulically and with a little pounding with my palm to get it completely in.

Can this out of alignment cause a leak?

Have other 2001 Intrigue experienced the same leakage problem?
Is there a way that I can realign the slide myself or does it need to be serviced?

My 02 had the dreaded hydraulics, my 04 is electric, and I had to adjust the slide after a sycronizing cylinder replacement. Not sure if yours is the same, but if it has the serpentine chain system, then the adjustment is a little difficult. You have to remove the base trim in the gally/living area, both bottom and top to get to the cylinders.
You then adjust the cylinder rods to achieve the correct length. It's not easy, but it's not rocket science either.

I don't think your problem is related to the alignment. My slides align perfectly and I had new wiper seals installed around both slides after the electrolysis was repaired, and my slides still leaked! Here is how I fixed them...
First, stand outside in a heavy rain and watch the water coming down the side of your coach. You'll probably see a torrent of water pouring directly off the awning and down the slide seal. I believe that in many cases, this happens because the awning is too short.
Some coach manufacturers use awnings that are several inches longer than the slide so that the awning prevents water from running down the wiper seal, while Country Coach (in most cases I've seen) uses awnings that are exactly the same width as the width of the slide room. Thus, when it rains, the water runs right off the awning and pours right down the seal. This is the SOURCE of the volume of water that is most likely causing the leak inside your coach. To fix this problem correctly, you MUST fix the SOURCE first!

I found 2 ways to fix this problem. One way is to contact Zip-Dee and have them send you 2 metal slats for your awnings that are 6 inches longer than the ones you have installed. You may as well have them also send you a new cloth hinge that is 6 inches longer too. Install these longer pieces replacing the two slats that are currently on your coach. This will cause the torrent of water falling off your roof to completely bypass the wiper seal. By directing most of the water away from the wiper seal, your problem is likely to be fixed forever.

A second way to fix the short awning (and certainly the cheaper way) is to manufacture an extension to your awning that sticks out about 3 inches on each side, thus accomplishing the same result as the longer slats. I made mine from a rubber mud flap that I puchased from an auto parts store. This PROVED to me that this solution would work and not interfere with the slide room closure or awning roller mechanism. It also directs most of the water away from the seals and minimizes the chance that any water will leak into your coach. If you want to see a picture, I can send it.

OK... so with either method described above, you can fix the SOURCE of the problem. BUT, no matter what you do to fix the source, you will still get a few drips of water sneaking past the wipe seal.
That's why CC installs water catch basins under each wipe seal on the inside of your coach! They know that it is impossible to have a slide seal that will stop 100% of the water 100% of the time! So now, you need to confirm that your water catch basins are working correctly. Here is the process...

You need to do this on a day when you are expecting a very heavy rain. Remove the trim panels and sofa and interior components so that you can lay on the floor and SEE the catch basin under the seal. Then when it starts raining, lay down with a good strong flashlight and watch the water drips coming into your coach under the seal. The droplets of water SHOULD slide into the catch basin, but in your case (and mine), they were NOT. Mine was running behind the catch basin, down the wall, and onto the floor. I bought a tube of Sikaflex from Lazydays and sealed the catch basin so that IF a droplet of water sneaks past my slide seal, the water droplet falls over the Sikaflex lip and into the inside catch basin.

With that done, I have a 100% perfect solution with not a single droplet of water on the floor even in the heaviest downpour. I've done this same process on all 4 slide corners and I know that mine are now working perfectly.

Your wife may accuse you of "lying down on the job", but until you get your eyes under the slide in a good hard rain, you won't know how to fix your problem.

I hope these "step by step" directions are helpful to you in getting your water leak fixed.

Dave, first of all, Welcome! Once you get the slide leak fixed you should love your Intrigue. We had slide leak problems with ours, also leaking behind the driver's seat. The first time, CC made a larger "drip pan" that they placed under the slide, that didn't do the trick, so new wiper seals...that didn't do it either...THEN, they kept the coach with the sprinklers running on it and found that when there was just a bit of 'rain' capilary action was allowing the water to seep behind the catch pan...they somehow closed that gap and we've been leakfree ever since. I know it's a pain, but try any and all of those solutions...something will work ...(We had all of the work done at CC in JC. Ours was never out of alignment.) Enjoy the coach...

Sorry but we have not had a leak on our 01' Intrigue Galley slide.
We did experience a bad HWH syn valve that kept the slide from extending.

HWH recommends you hold the switch on a few seconds after extending and closing the slide to make sure you have a good seal.

The driver side window can also leak. Ours has been out and reinstalled by the previous owner. Our windshield did leak under high winds.

You should register your coach as the new owner with CC if you haven't.

PS. Dave...you'll see we try to sign our posts with our year, model, and "number" of our coaches which sometimes gives us clues if we see the same things happening to others 'near our coaches.' It's helped us figure a few things out!
