Power steering hydraulic filters?

Anyone ever change the three filters for the power steering system? I can't from the manual make out where they're located. Maybe inside the reservoir? Looks complicated if they are. The placard on the reservoir says to change the filters every 6K miles. I've got 22K and don't know if they have ever been changed. Thanks for any advise.

Yes the three filters are inside the reservoir, one stacked upon another. The label on the reservoir is incorrect. The SOONEST you need to change filters is 15,000 miles and you can easily go longer. I have never changed the filters myself, but have had them changed by Cummins before. Sometimes, these filters are difficult to locate.

Funny thing I was going to do that today, but Wheelers here in Vegas didn't have the filters in stock. I ordered the filters (CC part# 09620) and was surprised they were only $6. for the three. My owners manual says to change at 5k miles then every 25k miles or two years. Why not? The only question I have is the reservoir shows Dexron II and the book states Dexron III. I'm going to pump the fluid out of the reservoir to expose the filters then top it off with new fluid.
I have not done this yet, but it seems like an easy job since everything is easy to get to.

A very simple change. Clean the outside of canister. Remove top. Inside is a wingnut that holds the three stacked filters.
Remove filters from rod that hold them in place & replace with new.
If you want to replace oil I suck it out prior to filter replacement.
I get my filters from CC. Their part number is #09620. Cost was $24.98 for the three plus shipping last time I bought them. You'll need a 9/16 wrench & less than 30 minutes. Manual calls for changing every 15,000 miles.

Thanks for all the inputs. Glad to hear that the placard is wrong and they need to be changed every 15K miles rather than 6K miles. I'll order the filters from CC, unless I can find a cross-reference to Napa.

I went through this a few week ago and found that the NELSON # 84220A is not listed in NELSON CAT. NELSON filters are a division of CUMMINS and the filters are listed with the same number in the Fleetguard books. The price was about $8.00 each through the Cummins dealer. Had them stock.

I'd avoid www.fleetguardfilters.com. I used them once and got burned by paying a higher price and got old stock on some expired additives that they would not accept as a returned item. I buy most of my stuff at Inland Truck in Texas (look in the back of the FMCA magazine).... Outstanding service and fabulous prices too.

You can buy them at any CCI rally and they are cheap, $5 or $6 each. thats where we always buy this filter. It is best to call CCI about a month before the rally so they mark some for you on the truck.

Those filters mainly extend life of cooling fan system. Fan drive does not have reliability like typical power steering system. I replace the filters annually for a very small part of cost of new drive pump or fan motor.

I paid $13 for each filter from a commercial truck supply company.
Inland Truck? It seems better prices can be found.

According to CC, hydraulic filters are Cummins Part# 84220A. Went to Cummins in Sparks, NV who verified the number as valid but did not stock them but their sister store in Colorado did have them in stock. Ended up paying $9.96 each plus tax and $6 shipping charge.
So, getting them for $6 from CC is a bargain (if they have them in stock).

Recently I sent an email to CC service concerning the filters and procedure. Here is the query and response I received. Still no OEM and part number cross. I will try the Nelson/Cummins PN locally and see if it is applicably to my coach.
