Grease zerks

Can any one tell me if I'm right on the number of grease zerks?

(16) on the front end
(2) U joint

(1) slip joint of the drive shaft

Is that all there is?

According to my chassis book, there are 25 grease fittings as follows: - 2 on the front brake camshaft tube, left and right.
- 2 on the front brake slack adjusters, left and right - 8 on the front IFS knuckle post assembly, left and right - 4 on the drag links on IFS

- 2 on the rear brake camshaft tube, left and right - 2 on the rear brake slack adjusters, left and right - 1 on the drive shaft slip joint

- 4 on the drive shaft universal joints, front and rear

The book shows a diagram of the general locations and is not very definitive. I did mine about a year ago and found all 25 of them after extensive search. Some are on top of something and not in plain view from the bottom. Good luck.

Here is the list of zerks that I could find on my coach after many hours of searching by eye and by feel...

Front (16 fittings total):

Steering drag link tie rod ends (4 zerk fittings) S-Camshaft tubes (1 zerk each side) Automatic Slack Adjusters (1 zerk each side) Upper and Lower H Frame (2 zerk fittings each side) Knuckle Post Assembly (2 zerk fittings on each side)

Rear (10 fittings total):

S-Camshaft tubes (1 zerk on each brake - total of 4 in rear) Automatic Slack Adjusters (1 zerk on each - total of 4 in rear) Drive line shaft Universal U joints (2 "double-ended" zerk fittings) - Note: Spicer seals are made to be "popped" to flush out abrasive contaminants -- be sure to pop and purge all 4 seals in each U-joint for a proper lubrication of each joint every 5000 miles or less.

Here is what is listed in my manual that I could NOT find on my coach. I suspect this is old stuff in the manual that no longer applies to the newer coaches. I could NOT find these...

Drive line shaft slip joints (1 zerk?) I think my driveshaft is permanently sealed -- it has NO zerk fitting Tag axle joints (4 zerks?) -- I could NOT find any of these on my coach

Drive axle joints (4 zerks?) -- I could NOT find any of these on my coach

Stan, our coach numbers are close, so I'd expect that your fitting count should be the same as mine. Larry, I'm not sure why there are differences between our coaches because I'd expect them to be the same also, but obviously there are differences as you have documented in your list. Very puzzling to me.

Note: my coach does have a tag axle (this will affect the zerk counts for those who have coaches without a tag)

While at chassis seminar last fall it was mentioned that some of the fittings should not be greased as you will blow out the seals. Call John Bickle or Dave Rutherford, he gave us the warning.

I don't have the accordian cover over the spline. The spline is completley inside the outer shaft. The fitting is on the outer shaft, forward of where the inner spline enters the outer spline shaft. It is at 90 degree rotation from the forks that that connect to the universal joint. Or, dead center between the forks. Mine was hidden from view because it happened to be on top at the time. The only way I found it was by feel. Good luck.
