RoadMaster Tow Bar

With some of the posts on TowBars- I'll tell my short story- Started Fulltiming 3 1/2 years ago- Last summer we were in the Portland, OR area and I thought my STERLING Roadmaster bars were pulling out with some difficulty-(not bad)- so we would stop and have them look at it- They took one look and said to me we will put a new one on- N/C- They did not say why- I like my STERLING-

QUESTION- Has anybody heard of a problem with the STERLING?

We've had our Roadmaster Sterling about the same amount of time as you.
The arms on our unit were also very hard to close. At the FMCA meet in Perry last spring the Roadmaster folks were there. They offered two things.
First, clean out all the accumulated junk in the bar locking system and then use a "dry" silicone lubricant. The cleaner they recommend is called Zoom and I am sure is available from their website. It looks and smells like good old 409. You need to really drench the thing EVERYWHERE you can access it and you will be amazed at the amount of diesel soot, dirt and dust that is in there gumming up the works.
Second, they essentially completely rebuilt my tow bar free of charge. The only parts that are original are the main housings and the connection to the receiver hitch.

Roadmaster is at all the major rallies, FMCA for sure.
Now, as long as I keep it clean, it is fairly easy to manhandle. Not as good as new, but close.
