step cover problems

Paul: I wish I had the answers for you. I'll briefly share my experience with you and maybe shed some light on it.
Hopefully your actuator is newer and has been improved over the 1999 version.
On mine, the problems have centered on the stop switches at the end of travel on each end of the track.
The small gear on the motor shaft is the pinion gear that turns the rack back and forth. When it reaches the limit on each end, it encounters a stop switch. When the wiring is compromised as it was with mine, the stop switch remained active and I had no power to the motor.
The motor turns forward or backwards with the change of current from positive to negative, until the switch overheats and fails. I've replaced the switch twice.
I have been through four steps: #1. Factory warranty fix. Failed soon. #2. Replace motor at $250.00 cost. Failed soon.
#3. Sent actuator to manufacturer for overhaul. Another $275.00 Failed soon. #4. Removed Actuator so I can move it manually. Works great now! (by hand)

This probably doesn't help much, but it worked for me.
