Hi All, does anyone in the group have this Cummins ISX 600HP engine in their coach? If so, how do you like it and how is your MPG? Thank for any and all info, the Hollicks 05 Affinity 6370

It is optional in the '06 Magna for sure. Big monster of a thing sitting back there it is.

Thanks for the reply, Bob. I thought they had some out there in Intrigues. I know the Sigs have them (option?). My mistake, sorry. Hollicks 05 Affinity 6370

If they had troubs keeping a C13 cool, I wonder what owners of this engine will go thru. Maybe more wind tunnel testing ...

Actually ... LD has both a Magna and and Affinity listed with the "600" engine. I assume that's the engine in question.

Guess we will see ...

BTW, check out the price of the Affinity ... $80,000 more than our 2005 list price.

Dale, I can't afford one of those babys. I saw it at the SWCC Christmas rally, beautiful coach. Probably if I did drive it, I'd have to have one so best to stay out of the driver's seat. Gotta get our house built first.

Don't tell me you are already looking, you just got your awning problems fixed.

I was browsing used motorhomes the other day and I notice the ISX600 in the new Travel Supreme's. They rate it at 600 hp and 1850 ft- lbs. Behind it (or in front depending on your perspective) is an Allison 4000. Man....I be that baby flys. I better go talk to my wife about this.

Anyway....FWIW.

Better have you money ready, it is a $10,000 option for the 06 Magna. Plus you lose a lot of floor space in the closet.

I've noticed a couple of MH's with the 1850 ft-lb version of the ISX600. Allison must have uprated the MH4000 as the spec sheet I have shows only 1650 ft-lb's for a MH4000.

All readers,

Need to do your home work! I was told the engine manufactures are turnning down the power (torque) so not to over torgue the transmission. Some have gone to a German transmission.

I was in service during Oct. last year and went to the weekly Allison seminar. Seems when Allison developed the new seven speed extra HD tranny they came up with new programming and new ecm's which allows the 4000 series to be upgraded to 1850 ft-lbs with 600 hp. Newell is using the tranny with a 600 hp. 1850 ft lb. version of the CAT C-15. I saw two Affinities at home comming with the ISX 600. CC had to raise the floor in the bed room directly over the engine about 4 inches. If you look in from the access doors their seems to be no clearance between the valve covers and floor decking.

I was very curious so I went over and drove a 45' Magna that Guaranty had on the lot. Talk about a smooth rocket ship. From outside the engine sounds totally different than the Cat. She wound up to 2100 rpm indicated for each shift.(Cummins says 2050). (The only thing I have ever driven that came close was a 36" Foretravel with an ISM 500. and the shifts were fairly sharp. Must have been the difference in tranny programming.) It was about 75 degrees and in 50 miles I couldn't get the ISX 600 up to 180 or the tranny up to 200 according to the silver leaf. The guy before me only averaged about 4.5+ mpg and I got somewhere between 5.5 and 6.0, but I was hot rodding the coach. If the silver leaf was right, which I doubt, you might be able to get 7.0 mpg, but I am guessing.

Some friends of mine and I traveled together last Summer and we monitored our fuel use closely and filled at the same time. They have a 370 and I had a sick 400. They were 36' with two slides and I'm 42' with 3 slides. Flat and level we used the same fuel +/- 5%. In the hills I was behind 10 to 15%.

The silver leaf said they were getting 10 to 11mpg, but my pencil said 8.3 to 9.0. When I got home, I had my leaky CAC replaced and my fuel milage has picked up 15% at 65 mph. From 7.9 to 9 mpg. (Three round trips from El Paso to Albuquerque.) I am looking forward to our trip together this Summer.

That's one reason Cat has developed their own tranny's. And CC will be using them. The new 8 speed will handle the 625hp 2025 ft-lb C-15. The next model is rated for 600 hp and 1850, the smallest about 1250 ft-lbs and 400+ hp.

The Cummins people say the Cat engines won't meet 2007 emissions and are having to pay on a sliding scale. Thats why the C-15 is only rated at 550 hp for over the road truckers and the Cummins ISX at 565hp..
