My wife and I are considering renting/buying a site at The Great Outdoors Resort in Titusville Florida. Can anyone on the forum provide any information, thoughts or opinions about The Great Outdoors? We appreciate it.

You should also check out the Willow Lakes RV resort in Titusville just 10 miles north of the great outdoors at exit 223. Go east to rt 1, south on rt 1 and Willow Lakes is 3/4 mile on the left. Great place! We live here.

I do not know a lot about the Great Outdoors but wonder if you have considered alternate Florida RV locations such as Mount Olive Shores North ( mtoliveshoresnorth, com ). Unlike TGO this is a totally RV community with a motor home pads or stick built homes.

Mike, I assume you have spent some time there. I agree with the other comments in that I would sure check out the other offerings in whatever area you are interested in. We were disappointed, but were only staying there for a few days while visiting the area. It does have a lot to offer and the homes are all over the board as far as pricing. One thing we really liked and didn't like is the proximity to the swamp between the resort and the river. I loved the nature trail thru the woods that ran beside the swamp for over a mile. My wife and I are runners and the trail was a great place to run. We did see 5 alligators within 15 feet of the trail. My wife asked me what we were to do if the gators came after us and I told her I was going to run. She said that I couldn't out run the alligators and I told her that I didn't have to out run them, all I had to do was out run her. She didn't think I was very funny. The trail though is great. The bad part about it is that the air boats were going all night long several nights we were there. Those airplane engines in the middle of the night are very noisy. Good luck.

Hi,

We have been residents at The Great Outdoors (TGO) since 2001 and love it here. Like many other RVers, we stopped here as full-timers and decided to make it our winter home ... and then our permanent home.

TGO is a community of about 1400 home and RV sites on a 3+ sq mile property just South of FL-50 and East of I-95. It is surrounded by public lands (St Johns River Water Management District, and Canaveral Marshes) to the West and South and by the St Johns Wildlife Preserve across FL-50 to the North. I.e., we are next to and are in fact a part of the wetlands that follow the St. Johns river. Google-Earth 100 Plantation Dr, Titusville, FL to get a satellite image of the area.
The first section of home/RV sites was started about 15 years ago and a new section of about 100 sites was added each year. The developer has just started work on the last two phases that will add about 200 more home/RV sites. Typically each new section opened a new part of the property and introduced another, newer style of home or landscaped lot/RV Port (for the RVer, the non-RVer snowbird, or for the permanent resident).

We like TGO because it is a small community unto itself and because Titusville has not grown much and doesn't/can't encourage much growth.
TGO is not a retirement community, or over 55 community, but most of us are. There's plenty to do or join, for example, I'm in the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) that just started last year and my wife is in the Quilting group. Our bi-weekly "Happenings" runs about 20 pp.

Visit the developer's realty website at http://www.tgoresort.com/ to get the sales/marketing perspective and visit http://www.tgocsa.com/ to get a view of the homeowners association.

We have been to just about all the places in Florida you can buy a lot or have a home with rv parking. The most expensive for just a pad would be Blue water key, Pelican Lake, some in Outdoor resorts, etc. I was just in the great outdoors and heard of a port in coach club for sale in the 300 thousand range. There are so many places to choose from in Florida, I wouldn't say any one was the best, because it depends on what you like. After 18 years in Florida and seeing and staying in about all there is, my advice would be to rent somewhere and see them for yourself. We own a lot in the new section of the great outdoors called hidden lakes. It will be homes with rv port or garage only, no rv pads or ports. We got a small lot on the lake for a chalet home, about 1500 sq ft. Right now it is nothing but dirt. Not sure when they will be building. Not sure if we will build or not, have plenty of time to decide. We have been going to the great outdoors for 15 years and really like it. They have a great deal for the monthly rate. Check out some of the others and you will see what I mean. Good luck and happy hunting.
