Step coming out while driving

Yahoo Message Number: 22715
We just returned from a short trip and and when we left the last campground after about 5 miles on the road the "entry step out "warning light came on on the dash. I asked my wife to stand up and take a look to see if the step was really out and it was. We were on a two lane country road and it took several miles to find a place to stop and before I could stop the light went out. My wife took another look and the step was now in. In the next 200 miles everything was o.k. . We are about to head out on another trip and I'm kinda worried. Anyone know what to do to get the step in if this happens again. Keep in mind that that I will need to do repairs on the side of the road with limited tools, etc. I hope this never happens, but you never know.
Thanks,

I have a 2005 Inspire 40' Da Vinci. I had the same problem with the steps coming out while driving. Guaranty in Gilroy CA. made some adjustment to the magnets on the door while in for service and that eliminated the warning light and the steps coming out.

They claimed it was a simple process. I hope this helps.

I have had the same experience with my 2004 Inspire #51008 and the problem was the spring loaded door contactor switch. If your setup is like mine, the solution is to polish the four brass contactors.
One set of four contactors are mounted on the coach door frame and the other set of four are mounted on the door. It seems that these brass contactors become discolored and fail to complete the step circuit. On occasion they need to be polished with some fine emory paper. Another problem with this type of contactor is the spring itself. It will rust and break. In the photo section you will find some pictures of the switch. I have replaced the springs inside my switch with four new one fron a ball point pin. The ball point springs are coated and will not rust. Hope this helps.

This is happening to me currently, I look for the answer. It has to be a contact switch, I just don't know where it is. If I get anydata will advise, looking for switch now.

Thank you,

Jim,

My contactors are located on the lower hinge side of the door. One set of the contactors are installed in the frame and the other set in the door. Yours may be a different setup, but I would check that location first.

Thanks to Jon, John, Jim, and Jock. That's a lot of J's! Your help on the steps coming out while in transit was very helpful. I had Buddy Gregg in Dallas check out my problem since I'm still in warranty and supposedly they fixed it. I didn't have time to discuss it in detail wiith them since they were very busy with other customers at the time, but they said something about the step switch needing repair.
Jryder, your picture of the door switch and ball point pen spring was excellent. At least if this happpens while on the road, I will know where to start in trying to get the step it to come in. We're about to hit the road, so I feel a lot better. Thanks again to all. If anymore info comes up regarding this please post for all of us.
