TV antennas -- I LOVE my old Wineguard bat-wing

With all this discussion about switching brands of TV antennas, I thought you might appreciate a unique benefit of that old Wineguard bat wing that you may already have...

I often camp in places far away from any cell phone towers, and sometimes cell phone reception is poor or even non-existant in remote campgrounds. I started using a Wilson external cell phone antenna years ago with a 3 watt booster to solve the problem and the results have been excellent. I NEVER get stuck anymore without a cell phone connection. The Wilson trucker antenna and the booster solved that problem. BUT...

The problem I faced was how to get the Wilson high in the sky when camping and retracted low to the roof when traveling. Ahhhhh... (do you see the lights going on above my head!)... the old bat wing to the rescue. I mounted my Wilson antenna to the shaft of the old Wineguard bat wing antenna. Now when I raise and lower my bat wing TV antenna, the Wilson goes right up there with it. And now the Wilson is a full 18 feet above the ground when deployed! What fantastic cell phone reception! And when I'm traveling, the wilson lays flat against my roof so there are no worries about hitting the Wilson on low hanging tree branches.

I LOVE my old Wineguard crank up bat wing antenna!

Bob, what a smart idea you had!!! Awesome. Do you have cabling that runs down the length of the winegaard to hook it up? Thanks, Dale

I ran the Wilson trucker wire inside the hollow Wineguard batwing tubing following the exact same path as the coax cable already installed. I didn't have to even drill any new holes through the roof because the wire for the Wilson just goes in the same hole as the already installed coax. Once inside the coach, I just fished the Wilson wire to the location where we most often sit while using the cell phone.

To clarify a point of confusion... I now use my bat-wing for television reception and the Wilson for cellular SIMULTANEOUSLY.
The use of one does not cancel the use of the other. I just ran the wires through the same pre-existant holes and openings.
