Improving handling

Hi All

I love everything about my CC except the handling in windy conditions or when the road surface has lateral imperfections. As this is our 1st MH, I was wondering if this is as good as it gets or have others found ways to improve handling!!

Check and make sure that you have the new ride height configuration, one in the front and two in the rear...that improved my 99 Allure a great deal....also make sure that the tire pressures are correct for the load...my experience is that with the new configuration the front tire pressures should be nearly the same.

Another thing to look at would be the actual ride heights for front and rear, making sure that your coach is not front end high...that makes them wander a bit....

I don't know if you have the adjustable Koni shocks or not. If you do, you might try setting them to a firmer setting. It's not hard to do but you do have to remove them from the coach. Also make sure your tires are properly inflated and the ride height is set to specifications. Good luck.

Rich, I installed Howard Power Center Steering on my 99 Magna. It made a tremendous

difference. It was kind of expensive, but in my mind a good investment.
The

coach tracks much better with it.

I owned a '99 Intrigue and had the same problem (now own an '00 Magna). There was recall which moved the leveling air valves from two in the front to two in the back. There was another recall that replaced the two front tires because they were delivered under- pressurized. The coach was fine after that. I have not found any coach that handles great in cross winds. My Magna does the best because it is a 40 footer and weighs 20 tons!! jerry in NM.

I have a 2000 Intrigue with IFS. The fix that I am going to suggest is not available for my coach, but I did put a Safe-T-Plus on a 96 Discovery with good results. It is available for your coach.

I was told by reliable front end shop that they redisigned them two years ago to incorporate an "opposing spring" internal design. As such, the are somewhat tricky to install. Apparently locating the clamp which holds to the axle is demanding nad needs to be within 1/8th inche in order to prevent pull. Accordingly, I would call the manufacturer and ask them for installers in your area, then question the installer closely about their experience with the critialcality of proper installation. If they agree to spend the time to do it right (I hear 3-4 hours), I would give them a chance.

Camping World sells them, but I would never go back to them for any mechanical work. They tore a wire harness loose installing a receptical for a towing cable (for lights). It got caught in the belt for the air conditioner, flipped off the belt and tore up the wire harness--Ouch! This was all because the installer pulled and jerked on the harnes ot get slack and failed to notice that he broke a number of mounting clamps. They really screwed up the insatllation of a towing device on a the coachof a friend of mone as well (drilled holes in the frame of the car so the bar ended up being crooked, then would not fix it--"Sorry, the holes are already drilled."
My experience with the device on my Discovery was positive. It really helped hold the front end on track in high winds. No more "automatic lane changes"!!! I got blasted by huge wind gusts coming down the Grapevine on I-5 (north side) at high speed (woops!) and I think it saved me a crash. Excellent on blow-outs as well. Good for those who are not natual "truck drivers."

We have had 4 motorhomes and I believe this is as good as it gets unless you buy a bus. The more weight, the better it handles in most cases. Wind and road surface will always be a problem for big vehicles and when you hit a bump with our big tires you really feel the hit. But I'll take our big tires any day to the smaller ones every other company uses including American Eagle, Beaver and Monaco. Someday all coaches will use our big tires but they have not decided to spend the money yet.
