dumb ladder question

I was looking at an allure with a ladder installed and it was setup with the ladder in the up position. Dealer told me that was the travel position.

Hard to believe as there is only one simple catch holding it in place whereas the bottom has two pins to hold it in place when in the down position.

Granted that it covers the engine compartment, but what position should the ladder be in?

I agree with Mr. Vanderslice. Only way to run with the ladder up is to re-enforce the latch or use something else to strap it in place. I sometimes use a short length of nylon cord and then you can get into the engine compartment while traveling.
Once at destination, if allowed, I sometimes use the cord and lower the ladder to ninety degrees so you can hang wet rags or swim suits on it. You can also use hangers and dry clothes on it if needed.
Oh well, just an idea...ha
