Lint removal from Splendide Washer/Drier

Yahoo Message Number: 23835
I purchased a 2001 Intrigue in 2005. I had a new Splendide washer/drier installed at that time. Unlike a previous Splendide I had, it does not have a lint filter. My question is "how can I clean the lint out of the hose from the drier to the outside without removing the washer/drier?" It exhausts out the of the coach.

Thanks,

At the CC rally in June the Splendide rep said to remove the vent cover on the outside of the coach and vacuum inside the tube as well as get a dryer vent brush made for doing just that. Hopefully the lint hose should be straight and not bent. If it is bent he recommended removing the unit and doing a thorough cleaning.

Dave,

We have used Splendide for about 18 months living in coach. Lint goes out with water & with air exhaust. Rather fuzzy outside coach. Old tooth brush & fingers suffice to clean exhaust port & outside end of 3" hose. Enough lint must go down drain, as hose has not clogged.
Terry says it takes all day every day to do our clothes & towels. It still makes terrible noises, still works, still is only large enough to wash 1 cat, not 2.

Hello Dave;

We love our Splendide. My wife has done about 20 loads of laundry a week for the past four years as we have lived in our coach fulltime. During that time, I have had to remove the washer from the cabinet about once a year for repairs of one kind or another, and when I remove it from the cabinet, I have always cleaned out about 2 to 3 large handfuls of accumulated lint from the exhaust tube. After cleaning out the lint each year, my wife always remarks how "the clothes dry so much faster"!

When the washer was installed by CC at the factory, the optional lint filter was installed on the back of the Splendide. That optional filter was horrible. It slowed down the drying process greatly, and caused some back-pressure which forced lint to accumulate all around the washer cabinet inside our coach. What a mess! Lazydays suggested removing the lint filter and "just let the lint blow out the exhaust vent". That was an excellent suggestion and I'm delighted that we removed it.

Now, just in case your going to ask, what kind of repairs we have had to do over the past 4 years, I'll tell you now. Vibration caused the rubber J shaped fill hose to develop a wear-spot and leak after about 1 year of use and the rubber J shaped fill hose had to be replaced. After 2 years, the water pump developed a leak and had to be replaced. After 3 years, the rubber fill hoses started to develop severe cracks, and I replaced them with braided stainless steel hoses. After 4 years, the door lock/release switch failed and had to be replaced. All the parts were covered by Westland Sales under my washer/dryer extended warranty, and I highly recommend the extended warranty for the washer/dryer, especially for full time RVers.

So, in answer to your question, I remove as much lint as I can every week from the outside vent, but this will still leave a significant accumulation after doing hundreds of loads of drying. In my case, the only really effective way to get it spotlessly clean is to remove the washer and clean the hose from the inside. With experience, the job takes about 2 hours.

Thanks Bob for your detailed response. I'm hoping I can take the exhaust fitting off the side of the coach and vacuum out the hose that way. But maybe I'll also investigate how much of a problem it is to move the drier out enough to get back in there with a vacuum hose.

Sitting here at Camp CC in Junction City. Yesterday when the coach came back, the tech went over what was done for the day. One of the items on our list was that the dryer was running too hot. You could hardly touch the clothes. Turns out when the unit was installed during build someone did n ot cut the vent hose to length. Instead they just bunched it all up so that it would fit in the compartment.
The result was that the lint got trapped in the bends and just collected there causing a blockage. Service cleaned and shortened the hose and now everything works fine. Lucky we did not have a fire.
