Odometers

We have the earlier Intrigue that has the electronic mileage display. The one that doesn't show until the ignition is on and even then is very difficult to read.
Has anyone researched the cost to replace the speedometer/odometer gauge?
Is it practical technically at a reasonable cost or do I have to wait until my next coach?

You could get a Silverleaf. One of the screens displays the odometer. Ours sits on top of the dash, we did not want to cut into the panel. At the FMCA, the had the small one reduced to $995 I think. It also give you a bunch of other information.

We have a 99 Allure with apparently the same unreadable style gauge. That's unless the sun is shining over your left shoulder. Then it's great. We get a laugh anytime a direction to a camp ground has mileage in it e.g. turn left 6.2 miles. We just throw up our hands and pray.
We were in JC recently and I asked the parts department about a replacement. The parts managers eyes crossed when I asked about it. Apparently, we aren't the only ones that have a problem reading the odometer. I told him that I had been told by a chassis guy that a 2000 & 2001 gauge might work. He showed me the parts and they are the same gauge, same part No. I asked if the new analog gauge in the 2002 and 2003 coach, which is extremely readable, could be modified and placed in our dash. They brought one out from the parts room and it's way to large. It would bump up against the tach. I didn't go beyond the size limitation to check and see if they require an odometer cable which I assume a digital odometer doesn't require.
I wish I had the time to contact Datcom to see if they have any ideas.
Hopefully your question will come up with a satisfactory answer with the other readers of this web site. Maybe another manufacture has a readable gauge and will fit our dash. In our towed Jeep Laredo, it has a digital odometer with very bright green numbers.

They don't cost "that much",(they are not cheap depending on installation) but you have to make sure that it is calibrated to your wheel size and transmission, etc. If you don't do this you readings will not be accurate. I had an Intrigue and hated that speedometer. I had it replaced with a unit that they put in the Magnas and they did it under warranty at no cost to me. While it didn't match the other gauges, at least I could read it.
You will also have to find another gauge that will fit into the same size hole in the panel or have a larger one cut in to accommodate the new gauge.

While I was at CC pre rally last year I was told there was an EDO direct replacement speedometer with more conventional (legible) odometer readout. It could be done by coach owner but there is the problem of applying the real mileage on it. You may want to check with CC. Darn shame the ones in our coaches are so hard to see.

I can see it well enough to read it in the day time if I turn on the lights and use my reading glasses! At least I can write down the mileage when we get fuel.

Thinking about it last night, I'm going to see what increasing the intensity of the dash light (eyelash or eyebrow knobs --- or whatever they are called), does to the readability.
