Bike Rack

I am looking for a bike rack that I can put on the back of my Country Coach.
I have seen some with a collar that fits over the 2" tow bar that comes out from the receiver. I am looking for a bike rack that folds down (away from the engine door) with the bike on the rack. In the past I have seen some, but didn't pay attention to them. Now I want to buy one, I can't find one (the ones I see now do not fold away from the engine door with the bike on it).

I would appreciate any information you can provide.

Art....I have the swing-down rack on my Jeep Grand Cheerokee...works great to get in and out the back of the SUV and would do the same to access the engine on your coach. The Jeep is my tow car. One I have is made by THULE...model 920,921 and 922 is the base station which slips into the two inch receiver hitch. Mine holds two bikes....found it at a cycle shop. No phone # but address is THULE U> S> A> 42 Silvermine rd.....Seymor, Ct 06483. Hope this helps.

We have a Thule bike Rack on the back of our jeep also. Works very well and the bikes are very stable. We caravaned to Perry from the CCI rally and I asked how they looked. Very little movement, very solid was the reply.

I have a 4 bike rack that installs into the 2" receiver. With the pull of a pin, it will fold down for access to the back of the coach (the bikes must be unloaded first). It is a Yakima ROC4, MSRP of $199.95. I carry 4 bikes, and it holds them securely in place with only one add'l bungee cord to secure the front wheel on the inside bike from swinging into the coach. I also use it on my Suburban and Wrangler.

I would recommend the 4 bike carrier even if you only plan to carry 2 bikes. The 4 bike rack will allow the bikes to be spaced further apart and can be adjusted so the the inside bike is farther away from the MH bumper. I have scratched my painted bumper when the bike peg rotated underway and began rubbing on the bumper. If I carry only 2 or 3 bikes, I leave them to the outside.
Check ebay for deals, also. The 2 bike carrier is a ROC 2, and I've seen them on ebay.

I have a bike rack made by "Rhode Gear" that holds 4 bikes and folds down 45 degrees. I do not know the model tough.

I have purchased several bike racks and I can tell you do not buy the fold down rack. I have one and with bikes on it you will find it takes 2 men and a boy to lower and raise it. I then purchased one from a bike store that swings out and that works great on my tow car but I have not tried it on the rv and these are receiver type , I have one of the two bike racks that slides over the 2 inch receiver but it does not fold or swing away. Go to good qualty bike shops and you should see the best types available. dave spain

I believe the "fold down" bike racks were not intented to fold down with the bikes loaded. The "fold down" feature allows you to access a rear hatch or cargo door without pulling the pin or taking out the bolt on the 2" receiver and removing the rack from the vehicle. I use a Yakima ROC4, and it holds the bikes very securely in the 2" receiver and the rear hatch is easily accesses with the bikes unloaded. BTW, the swingout racks are almost 2X the cost.

The Thule bike rack we have actually works better with the bikes on it because of the weight. It is made to go down with the bikes on it and it is easy to remove the bikes then. I'm only 5'2", so it is a lot easier on me.

The Thule rack is specifically made to swing down with or without bikes...but as the lady stated...it's even easier with bikes on.
Just a touch of a lever with your foot and you pull the rack toward you....I think it's hydralic....and it smoothly move away so you can acces the toad or the rear of the coach. I've used mine for three years all over the country and the bikes are held secure and solid...with a simple bolt lock for theft protection. So to those who think racks are not made to drop down (no doubt true of the K Mart variety)...the Thule is superb.
