Lemon-Law and Country Coach

#5840 2000 Magna

We bought a new Magna from LazyDays 2/2000 and since the sate of purchase we are now on our fifth entry door...The doors do not fit flush in their intended frame and although CountryCoach has acknowledged that they are having problems with this door (elixir) they will not offer to buy back the motorhome or allow a decent allowance so that we may get into a new CountryCoach, which, by the way has a new door on their models (PTL)...
We notified the State of Florida of the continuing problem and a mediation hearing has been set with an arbitration hearing to follow...
CountryCoach apparently is wanting to play hardball concerning this on going problem...They stated to me that they would rather spent the money litigating than doing the right thing and getting us out of a defective product...
Obviously, this has left a bitter taste in our mouth and I am at a loss as to why a company that wants to keep a satisfied customer would rather that a stand that would be contrarry to customer relations...
This whole process has made us rethink our willingness to remain avid motorhomers..I for one certainly have a different opinion about CountryCoach...
It has been said that CountryCoach is one of the best comapnies as fas as service is concerned...This does not bode well for CountryCoach or the industry is this statement is true...
I would truly love to hear back from anyone else who has had similar experiences...

John,

I haven't had anywhere near your kind of problem. CC is now a part of National RV. Have you tried going up the chain of command? They are a public company and may have a different view on lemon law actions, customer satisfaction and public discussions of difficult to resolve problems.

Just a thought.....

I'm curious as to what the actual problem with your entry door is.
You stated that it doesn't fit into the "intended frame".
Do you have air leaks, water leaks, difficulty in closing the door, or some other problem?

We have had several occations to talk to newer Magna/Affinity owners and have heard about and seen the doors. As it is not the best designed door I have seen( lack of hinge or support on upper half of door), it seems to be a decent quality piece of equipment.
Owners of several of the coaches we talked to, had problems with the doors, but had them replaced at the factory and seeemed to be happy with the results. Has CC replaced the doors or LazyDays?

The door in our 91 Affinity was junk when we purchased it, but I replaced it with a door from a company on the west coast. The door is better then the original and wasn't to costly to replace/paint.
It is not by any means as good a door as CC used on any of their coaches for the 2000 model year!

I find it puzzling that CC management would not want to solve the problem for you. The doors couldn't cost them that much, especialy considering what lawyers cost these days.

Good luck with your problem!!

John and Carlene...sorry to hear about your problems with your Magna.
Have you gone to the factory for their service on this? I know that it should not be required to do that, but it seems that whenever folks have "difficult problems" that the factory can often only be the right place to get it repaired.

We had some slide leaks that a reputable dealer tried 3 times to repair (about 7 days of work on it!) and finally we went to the factory where we were very happy with the work. Everyone there is willing to do whatever it takes to make your rig right. We spent 2 weeks there with assorted repairs, upgrades, etc., but were very satisfied with their attitude. I can't believe that CC would treat you that way, when most folks seem to be very satisfied...at least those that end up at the factory.

All in all, CC seems to have one of the best coaches around. When we were at the factory there were several "Brand X" folks there getting new CC's and getting rid of their "Brand X"...they were fed up with them.

Good luck...(ps we like the new doors too on the new rigs, but found our 2001 Intrigue couldn't be retrofitted...another reason to get a new rig! That and the new lighting that is lovely.

The door is had to open and close...There have been water leaks coming into the door where it has rusted from the inside out...We have discovered no water as yet but there is plenty of air noise and we cannot lock the coach properly...We just came back from a short trip and discovered the screen door does not want to open properly...

It's hard to believe that an entry door could cause one to give up the battle. My cousin and I have fought problems for months on our coachs but never ever thought about giving up the RV life. We get the problem fixed, fix it ouselves or trade the rigs in on new ones.
I would like to hear CC's side of the argument (if there is one). jerry in NM, '00 Magna.
