C9 Engine Power Loss and Coach Numbering

Yahoo Message Number: 26432
I have an '06 Inspire DaVinci (#51905) with 9000 miles on it. No cold start power loss problems to date (knock on wood).

On a related subject; I have been trying to decipher the coach numbering scheme so I can correlate (or at least attempt to correlate) reported problems/issues/fixes to my own coach build date. My coach was built in March-May 2006 with delivery in late May. At first I thought that all Inspires had sequential numbers as they came off the line (or perhaps started the build process).
However, a look at the last several days worth of postings indicates that either (1) the numbers are assigned randomly, or (2) the numbers are assigned sequentially by series AND model. It looks like option 2 is the answer based on the following observations:

Inspire Genoa: '05 (#51469) '07 (#51762) Inspire Sienna: '06 (#51554) '06 (#51933) Inspire DaVinci: '05 (#51457) '06 (#51836) '06 (#51905)

Does anyone know for sure how the coach numbers relate?

John

Let me mess up our correlation even more.
Ours is 06' Inspire Modena 51682 we took delivery 10-05.
Would be interesting if you would let us know if you figure it all out and post it for us.

My '05 Inspire Da Vinci is number 51293. This was a purchase of a preorder that fell thru for the AZ dealer and we were led to believe that it had what we were going to order. (Unfortunately it turned out that most of the add ons were done at the dealer and not at the factory but that is not a story for the internet.) Anyway we purchased this coach in late August of 2004 and it had been on the lot for a little while, so I imagine it is one of the first '05's. I can't go out and check the manufacture date as the coach is in the repair shop again.
As to the C9 power loss, we had no sign of this until after our engine overheated and stopped on the 4th of July, 2006. Thanks to the Phoenix CAT people, they baled us out but the coach sat for 6 weeks at our authorized CC repair shop while the "discussion" between CC and CAT continued. Turned out it was a problem with the cooling fan which is under Country Coach and the "traveling team" was in the area for a different coach's serious problem and they tinkered around with some programming. Unfortunately, this "fix" only lasted 400 miles and in south Utah the overheating reoccurred. But since I had made them show me where the fan control unplugged, it was just a matter of crawling under the back end and unplugging it. But on this trip to Utah, was the first time that we have experienced the loss of power. We were at about 5000 feet but the temp was in the 50's.
The overheating has since been fixed (fingers crossed) when CC sent down a new fan controller. I have had one minor (just a few seconds) of no power since this last repair. Again at about 3500 ft and 50 degrees.
If anyone finds out what the problem is and how to fix it, please let us all know.

Very interesting - my step motor cratered 2 days into a month long trip through the Pacific Northwest - that translates into a "watch that first step, it's a lulu".

Sorry, but my Inspire Genoa # 51762 is a 2006 and not a 2007.

Till today after 12.000 mi no engine power loss.
Overheating is strange but in my opinion caused by a failing overstressed fan controller. With my coach overheating starts mostly after 3 to 4 hours of permanent driving when the temperature suddenly begins climbing with no sound of a running fan.
Before that the fan works very efficient especially you see the dropping temperature when you use the engine brake and the fan starts running activated by the brake system.
Stopping with a hot engine at CAT in Rapid City, SD they found only a difference in temperature between the gauges and the ECM but had no failure code of an overheated engine. And they blamed everything else on the coach manufacturer.
After that we were at the factory where they checked the fan controller but the engine was not even hot. So now we are, talking in car racing language, on a two pit stop strategy, that means we stop every 2 hours and let the engine and maybe the stressed fan controller cool down and the whole story starts from zero.
But I have a question, was unplugging the fan controller any helpful?

My coach is a 2006 Inspire DaVinci, 51526 and I just verified that it was the second unit built in the 06 model year. I have 23500 miles and have been having the cold start problem for many month's. CAT keeps telling me that they are working on it as I have previously reported. I have never had a heating problem either in the engine or the transmission. With the exception of a authorized CAT dealer with a corrupted laptop which changed a governor setting that took two weeks to find, it has been trouble free.
As you can see, we have been on the road quite a bit and am very happy with our unit and with CC with any small problems that we have had. If you own a motorhome you are going to have some problems, that's the way it is.

Hi John,
FYI

Per your numbering theory list, we own Inspire Sienna 360 #51554.
This was manufactured March 05, we purchased it in May 05 all prime documentation refers to it as an 06.
