you're right Fred it is. Some of these virus creators and 'spreaders' are going through outrageous maneuvers in an attempt to get you to open virus attachments. One of the ways you can identify virus visually is when you open your email, if there is an attachment with the extension .exe or .scr or .pif, it is almost always a virus. At our company we have a strict policy that if you are not expecting something with an attachment, or are not absolutely sure of an attachment, delete the message. better safe than sorry. If any member of this group is using microsoft outlook express, be sure you have your 'preview pane' unchecked. In windows 2000, click on 'view' on the top of outlook express. then click on layout. on the bottom half of the box you will see info regarding the preview pane. there is a little box that you can check or uncheck that says 'show preview pane' make sure you UNCHECK this box. that way attachments will not automatically open when you read an email. If you receive an attachment that you think may be something you want, but are unsure of, DONT open it in email. save it to a disk...preferably a floppy disc ..not your hard drive. Then with an anti virus program, open the file and it will tell you if its a virus. Some anti virus programs like the McAfee I use automatically detect a virus when you open an email.. even without opening the attachment. That way you can delete it without doing any damage. Good luck.
