ABS / ATC problem

Yahoo Message Number: 34833
Hi;

I am hoping someone can help me diagnose a problem with the ABS on our 2002 Allure. I started it up today and the ABS light is blinking and the ATC light is on steady. ABS blinks twice each 5 seconds and there is a switch in the steering bay that also blinks the same. (the switch handle blinks amber) When I push the swich down it glows green but continues to blink when I let it up. I tried to find something in the manuals but it doesn't tell me much. Nothing about trouble shooting.

I have checked for error codes and there are none. (Unless that 2 blinks every 5 seconds is a code??? It does that anytime the ignition switch is on. When I turn on the error key switch to the left of the driver seat both of those lights stay on steady indicating no errors stored, I think.)

Any advise you can give me will be much appreciated.

Thanks much

Andy. do you have a tag axle? If you do, the ABS light is due to the tag going down while turning, resulting in sensing of different speeds on each wheel.

Hi Walt

No I don't have a tag.

The coach has been sitting still for several months but I start and run it about an hour each month. This is the first time something has been wrong on the monthly run up. I wonder if sitting so long would cause this. I will be running it soon from ME to FL. Anxious to see what happens when the wheels turn.
Thanks
Andy

You shoudl definitely call CC to find out if they can shed any light on this, but let me suggest something as well --

If the coach has been sitting for a while you may be getting a varying voltage trhough the engine computer due to low battery and/or the alternator is not putting out enough.

We had a problem last week where the engine warning light & abs lights came on after he second start-up (1st was to do the brake test). Having the VMspc we had the codes and contacted Coach-Net & Cummins who (both) told us that it was the engine computer not getting a good signal and most likely due to the alternator and that the ABS light was due to that circuit being shut down by the computer.
Well, we keep the coach plugged in when not running and while it had been a few weeks it seemed odd so we made an appointment @ Cummins.
When we started it again (the genny had now been running about 1/2 hour) no warning lights! Since then we have travelled about 1,000 miles (numerous stops) and no problems.
I suspect that we have a loose wire or maybe the alt coudln't put out clean power for a while (we park in the desert) due to sand or ??? But whatever it is when I called Cummins back they told me that unless the problem reappears there's nothing that they could do anyway.

So, long story short, I'd suggest making sure that you have plenty of 12VDC (genny or shore), check your belts and try to start it up again to see if it clears or not.

Good luck!

Hi

I just wanted to thank everyone that offered suggestions on my ABS light. Shortly after we left ME for FL the light went out and we had a trouble free trip all the way to FL. Just a false alarm I guess.

Thanks
Andy
