DirecTV receiver in bedroom

I want to install a second receiver in the bedroom, as often my wife and I want to watch different things. I carry a portable antenna for those times when I am parked under a tree, so I want to just use it.
Anyone have an idea how to run the cable from the closet with the TV out of the coach? On my coach, that closet sits right above the rear tire well. I don't want to come out there. But I can't figure out where to go with it and where to come out.

Hi Al,

Don't know if our coaches are similar, but heres the route I'd take in ours. TV is above closet that backs up to the clothes closet with the W/D on the bottom. The upper portion (the clothes closet section) has a false back that is removable to expose the Washer vent pipe and some wiring. This gives you access straight across to the bathroom wall. Down near the floor is a wood "Wire chase" that runs the length of the bathroom. This "wire chase" is also removable but don't try to take it all the way out. Not enough clearance to turn the piece without scarring up the walls. Just remove the screws and raise it up enough to get access to the wall.

Heres the tricky part. Use a fish tape to snake a line from the bathroom floor, going behind the W/D, to the upper part of the clothes closet. The altennative is to remove the W/D, but this is a major task not undertaken lightly.

From the bathroom "wire Chase", you can remove the drawers under the refrigerator and continue forward. The dining/living area also has a wood "wire chase" along the floor that goes all the way forward to the door. It would seem that you could drop down into any of the storage bays from anywhere along the chase.
One area I looked at was dropping into the propane tank area from the living area. The bottom of this is already open and it would be easy to place your connection points there and the dish wires outside through the open tank area and still be able to keep the door closed.

I might look at going backwards just inside of the rear cap, then down and possibly across (so all the hookups are on the same side).
Or if you are lazy, Camping World carries a short piece of flat cable which is designed to fit between the window and frame. Never tried it, but I presume you open the window, slide it through, then close the window to reseal the coach and hold the cable in place.

Allen there is a better way to accomplish; you already have an RG 58 or equivalent running from your entertainment cabinet to the rear TV.
There's a # of solutions here; does your satellite dish on roof have a single LNB output? If so does the manufacture offer a duel LNB input.

1) This will require you to change the wiring around a bit, do you have a wiring diagram? The easiest solution maybe to reroute the signal from the input of the cable jack on the outside of your coach, (doubt you'll ever use the ext. cable jack). This cable ends up in the same location as the cable from your bedroom, once you find both cables in the cabinet use a barrel connector to splice, connect the output of the cable jack input to the input of the rear TV. Now the ext cable jack servers as a straight RG58 to your rear receiver.

Can you somehow access the refrigerator compartment? Advanced Sat installed a coax cable inside the compartment on the outside of the coach where you access the back of the frig.

Nope it will not work from one LNB. You need two LNBs for any splitter to work. The reason is because even and odd transponders have opposite polarization... So you need 2 LNBs to get the 2 different polarizations...

On my coach, the cable TV input gets to the back TV by turning off the satellite receiver. It is plugged into the TV antenna input of the sat receiver, so when the sat receiver is off, the output is the TV antenna input. That signal ends up at the back TV when the entertainment center switch is set to "Aux". So if instead I took it to an A/B switch back at the bedroom TV, and when wanting back TV on Satellite switched it to Satellite, brought the signal into the Satellite dish input, output channel 3 satellite to TV! The other position of the A/B switch takes the cable or antenna signal and brings it into the TV antenna input of the Sat receiver. With the satellite reciever off, my wife can now watch cable or the outside antenna. This might work, and sure beats running another cable!

I have not been following this discussion in detail. Dual LNB is an ideal part of the solution. Without that, you will need an A/B switch to sent the satellite signal to either the front satellite receiver OR the the rear satellite receiver. But the following is something I have not seen discussed in the solution to your problem.

Two inexpensive Satellite Diplexer Signal Combiner & Splitter: Satellite diplexers are used outside to combine two separate signals: one signal from the satellite dish and another signal from either an off-air TV antenna or cable TV feed into a single coaxial cable. A second satellite diplexer is used in the bedroom to separate the combined signals. Satellite diplexers eliminate the need for extra wiring thereby reducing the cost of labor and installation materials necessary to run two coaxial drops. This is NOT an ordinary splitter but are still inexpensive.

I am looking for the best antenna to receive Sirius Satellite reception and is there also an ideal location to mount the antenna. I have tried the interior window mount antennas but I lose reception and get an "acquiring signal" often when traveling in different areas.

I use the diplexer internally right off both front and bedroom DTV receivers. I also use a multi switch per this diagram http://prosatellitesupply.com/PDF_Files/4-WAY_MULTI-SWITCH.pdf Signal output off the multi switch goes into the diplexer input, then I use 2, 1' cables to connect to Ant in & SAT in on the back of the DTV receivers. The Diplexer splits the signal between local and satellite broadcasts, works great. This is all possible due to the video cables going to the same location, "the electronic cabinet"?, find out what's what and you can run a signal to any existing location, bedroom, patio etc...
I've also made other mods, 1) eliminating the directional switch in the electronic cabinet, with today's technogally there's little use to run a VHS signal to the back TV, who watches VHS cassettes anyway? I've also junked the Jamo for a Panasonic product.

I realize, laying everything out, that by installing three diplexers, I can retain all the current functionality and have the cable input be either cable or satellite. I was going to use funky old A/B switches that would have to be switched depending on the input, but this is much better! Thanks again!

Maybe you could do something like we do. We feed both TVs with one double DVR, a Dishnetwork 522, that has two tuners, two outputs & two remotes. We also have RF remote extender so we can use both remotes while Dishnetwork is hidden from infrared remotes. We connect both outputs of Dishnetwork to one cable with a splitter connected as a combiner.
One TV tunes channel 4 to use one tuner or DVR output. Other TV tunes channel 69 to use second tuner or DVR output.
Your Directv is different and smaller. Two Directv units could perhaps both fit in front cabinet.

We normally have Dishnetwork in storage bay to feed coach cable TV input. The coach cable switch box is set for cable TV always.
In the house we do same, whole house is fed from both tuner outputs, so any TV can use either tuner or either DVR signal. One TV can also select the high quality output as it is near the Dishnetwork unit.
Again we use RF remote extender to have two remotes working in any part of house.

Also FWIW, my TV has been on only to play DVDs since September. Not hearing or seeing Simpson, Pelosi, Courtney, O'Rielly, Brittany or other celebrity idiot works for me. Just paying Dishnetwork without using it makes my life better.
