new to us 2001 Intrigue

Yahoo Message Number: 35533
I have just picked-up our, new to us, 2001 Intrigue. (40ft two slides). I have two switches just above the HWH leveling controls in the middle of the dash. The bottom switch is for the floor below the co-pilots feet. What's the top switch for? Our air leveling doesn't work at the moment due to corrosion in the circuit box. (We have a new one on order. $$$$). Or is it something to do with this switch. I don't have the CC manuals.

I also have some switches opposite the reefer under the pantry that don't work. They are obviously for the lights in the kitchen area but where are the fuses? The little green lights aren't on! Last question.

I have a Hurrican system. But our water heater is gas only. Is this normal? I thought these units were built with gas/electric/exchange units! Otherwise this unit is in near new condition with just 24900 mies on the clock.

thanks

That switch on mine allows the passenger to adjust his own temp controls for the dash AC/Heater. That control is located on the right side of the passenger's seat. If the switch is pressed toward the driver, then the dash AC/Heater controls are controlled by the driver's settings.

The fuses are most likely in the utility bay in front of the driver's side wheel, or the service bay on the passenger side rear.

The Hurricane should have an electric option. That is controlled directly from the main 120 volt circuit breaker box in the bedroom.
There should be two 20 amp breakers labeled Hurricane. My coach doesn't have a water heater, just the Hurricane.

Welcome! We have a 2001 Intrigue and love it! Hope yours does as well for you.

Re: your water heater. It should be (at least ours is) BOTH electric and gas. It won't run on the Hurricane other than when you are driving, it will heat the water just as a by product of the engine heat. So, when you arrive at a campsite you will have warm water for awhile, courtesy of your Hurricane. (You also get "free heat" this way, too, while on the road. Just set your thermostat to "Furnace" ...if needed...and the "free heat" will come and keep your toes and the rest of the rig toasty while driving.) In your bedroom are the breakers for your main electric stuff...one of them should be for the water heater.
If you have it "on" your water heater will work on electric. If "off" you will have to use your propane heater switch to heat the water.
Your question about the rocker switches was correctly answered already.

Hi Jan,

Sorry for the delay and thanks to all those who replied.
I have a breaker in the bedroom for the hot water. It is on and yet we can get only propane hot water to work.
So we plug in at a campground. Make sure the breaker is on. Turn the hot water switch on above the door and guess what. Propane comes on.
I must be missing something.

We don't really mind using propane but for what we are paying in RV park we want to use the electricity we are paying for!

I have an Allure of similar vintage and you do need to turn on the electric element switch for the HW heater that is located in the bay where you can get to the back of the hot water tank. Then just use the breaker to run it on elect or propanr as you need.
Hope that helps.

Hi Allen,

I have located the switch on the back of the HW unit. Do I turn it on and leave it on and then use the remote switch to use the unit? The switch is a pain to get to behind some drawers.
If left on will it run off my inverter and draw down my bats? Or do I only use the remote switch above the door from now on?

Thanks

Hi Bruce, if you water heater is anything like mine, there is switch and a circuit breaker on the back of the water heater. On my coach I have to remove a panel under the cook top in order to access it. The heater uses both sources to heat water if you turn off the propane at the tank and you have the CB in the bedroom, the on/off switch behind the heater and the CD behind the heat ON, you will get hot water, but it takes much longer. I do a lot of dry camping and I don't even turn on the CD in the bedroom. If you have a Hurricane, it will also heat the water, but not to extent the propane does. Additionally the Hurricane is controlled by the wall thermostat, so if you have it set to a low temp you won't get much hot water. The coaches with Hydro- Hot have a separate loop just for making hot water. Hope this clears some things up for you.

Hi Bruce,

My breaker in the bedroom is in the main breaker panel and is easy to access so we leave the switch ON on the back of the tank and just flip the breaker when we want 120v heat to supplement the propane.
It does not run off your inverter.

Hi All,

I would like to thank all those who have given advice. The switch on the back off the HW heater is now ON and we have hot water via the campgrounds 120v.

Why did CC do it like this?

Anyway thanks once again.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get my DVD going and I believe I have all that I need figured out.
My VHS works but the DVD simply won't come up on the TV. I believe it has to do with what buttons are pushed. I think I have tried every combination know to mankind but still no picture. Any hints on what I have to do would be much appreciated.

There is a switch on the hot water heater as well. Under the sink you will find the heater behind a carpeted partition. The switch is located on the side of the sheet metal cover. You can not see it. It is a small rocker switch. If that does not work, the element may have burned out. If it was turned on without water in the heater, it will go quickly.
