Sealing various rooftop objects and their fasteners

Hi all,

I'm sure many of you have repaired things that are roof top mounted.
When doing so, what kind of sealer do you find best to use? I used GE Silicone II when replacing a broken Girard anemometer, but I'm not sure that was a good choice.

Thanks,
Paul T.
