Our Own Service Centers - Leak Assistance?

Yahoo Message Number: 39858
Could use some assistance and/or advice regardng a stubborn leak in the back-end, bottom-front corner of bedroom slide on 2004 Allure Newport. And, another newer one in the driver-side front bay under closed living-room slide.

The bedroom leak appears to be causing no damage because I keep a container under that corner at all times just in case it rains or the coach gets washed. In fact, it's so "neat" that it might be channeling down through something like a tubular rubber fitting or "seal" in that area of the slide. It will leak in the rain and wind when the slide is open or shut and when the unit is running or standing still. Sometimes, though, it will not leak in any of those instances.... We had a well-known service center look at into this in the past, but no change. I wondered later whether they even really got to it...

The front left bay leak might be fixed, but also has been stubborn, so not sure yet. The bay leak occurs when the overhead slide is closed; not sure if it leaks when the slide is open. Replaced door seal and did some caulking above it and nearby more than once, but not at all confident....

Sure would appreciate suggestions.

I cannot help with the slide leak (have not had one of those). I did have a bay that leaked and the culprit was the six inch wide band that covers the seam above the bay doors. There was very little to no caulk on the band. I removed what little caulked there was and re- caulked from the front to the rear. I had no more bay leak after that.

Earl,

Thank you. Sounds like a good bet. I will thoroughly recheck that section.

Don,

I am heading for the ladder and the caulk gun. Thank you so much.
Your unit is close to ours in age; I think ours is 31001. So, maybe the same thing will work. In any event, I've never been one to shy away from the shotgun approach. I hope not to need to trouble you for pictures. If you are near the Albany rally, look us up.

Thanks again. s/Terry Apple

Terry,

We struggled with bedroom slide leaks that sound just like your
description. On our 2004 Allure Newport is was on both corners of the bedroom slide. Leaked with either the slide in or out. We tried a number of dealers and I even took a crack at it myself. Finally on their second try a dealer in MA solved it. Frustrated by all attempts to locate the leak they decided to seal every joint on the slide with a fine bead of clear silicon sealer. I mean every joint on the front panel and both sides and across the roof. Fortunately the tech that did it was an expert with a caulking gun. It is a very fine bead and just about invisible. That did it and I have not seen any leaking since. So neither the dealer nor I know where the leak was but we threw the book at it so as to speak.

I did have a leak in the front outside corner of the driver's side
slide. It happened once just before we had a service appointment at LazyDays. They solved that one but failed on the bedroom slide along with many others dealers.
