Front suspension sway bar?

Yahoo Message Number: 39903
I have a 2003 Allure and noticed the sway bar rubber bushings were a little loose on my front suspension. I'm on the road now, so I tightened up the nuts above and below the rubber bushings to eliminate the gap between the upper and lower sway-bar mounts. Not sure if this is the right thing to do. I will have to get with CC later to find out what should be done. Anyone elses have this problem? Or know what the fix is? Thanks.

Larry,

Since CC uses the same suspensions for many models I trust the following is of interest.
I would be careful to not overtighten those bolts. I and at least one other list member has had the retainers (roughtly u-shaped pieces of steel plate) break. In my case the falling anti-sway bar took out the front ride height control valve with loss of the linkage pieces as well.
CC sent me a kit that included the bushings and retainers and bolts, etc. for the bar. I was still under warranty but I believe I read here that they get $200 plus for the kit. Pretty steep IMHO.
The bushings should be tight with no loose contacts anywhere as this will cause noise and accelerated wear.

Good luck.

Thanks Bob. Do you happen to recall the torque and adjustment specs on those bushings? I have an email into CC support. Thanks again.

Larry,

I would be surprised if the Neway IFS in your Allure 03 is the same as CC used in manufacturing the Inspire. The Neway IFS has a metal name plate with model numbers stamped on it for your comparison.

Thanks Mike. I got the following reply from CC support:

"Larry

There is no maintenance requirement for the sway bar. It is normally checked during a chassis inspection when the front suspension is lubricated.

The torque for the mounting bolts is 45 ft. lb."
45 ft lb is pretty hefty. I don't think I have that much on it right now. I will have to get out the old torque wrench.

Nope, don't remember - CC tech support is the best place for that info.
