Equalizing Batteries

When equalizing a battery (such as a flooded lead acid), various inverter/charger instructions I have seen warn about higher than normal voltages, and recommend that you disconnect all loads. We have two disconnects (coach and chasis) but those leave a few items still connected. The concern is the above average voltage used for equalization -- Prosine says it may be as high as 17V.

For those who have invoked the equalization function of their inverter/charger, what do you do to protect all equipment, or do you take a chance?

p.s. I am also thinking of changing from the Invertex 2000 to a Prosine 2.0 inverter charger. Replacing 2 - 8D's with 4 or 6 Trojan T-125's.
