Brian,

We only have Michelins on the front and they are XVA1. We have Toyos on the rear.

Where have you listed the affected VIN's. I would like to check before beginning a trip.

This is from FMCA site on recall notices, it appears that all the tires were installed prior to 2000 and anyone with a later model should not be involved, I have a 2000 and it has the larger tires on it. Prior to 2000 they were putting a smaller tire and I think those are the affected models:

Country Coach Inc. has announced recall 01V284 (NHTSA recall 01V284), which affects Gillig chassis with VIN (vehicle identification number) 46GED3K1050976 to 46GED2511V1043216 and Dynomax chassis with VIN 4U7C6E8FR10X1100508 to 4U7E9FR18Z110910. These chassis were used on 128 MH PD (diesel pusher) motorhomes between January 1990 and November 1992, 460 Magna motorhomes between July 1991 and September 1999, 52 Affinity motorhomes between February 1993 and September 1999, and 95 Concept motorhomes between March 1990 and June 2000.

On certain motorhome chassis, mathematical miscalculations resulted in erroneously assigned cold tire inflation pressures and axle weight ratings that are inadequate. As a consequence, these motorhomes have tire weight ratings that are less than the front or rear axle weight ratings (FAWR, RAWR) and in some instances have inadequate FAWR and/or RAWR. The FAWR and/or RAWR as stated on the federal tire label are inadequate for these motorhomes. Because of this, the tires selected for these motorhomes do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 120. In some cases, this could cause premature front tire tread wear or tire failure during normal driving. The premature tire tread wear or tire failure could lead to a loss of steering control and potentially result in a vehicle accident.

Dealers will remove and replace the front and/or rear tires to remedy the noncompliance. Federal tire labels will also be replaced. This work will be performed at no cost to the consumer. The repair will take approximately 5 hours (2 hours for front tires and/or 3 hours for rear tires).

For more information about this recall, contact Country Coach at (800) 452-8015. Country Coach began owner notification in September 2001.

I have 30,000 miles on my Toyo tires and they don't show a great deal of wear, maybe you had a inflation, balance or alignment problem.
Most people seem to get good service from the Toyo tires.

David....

(I'm a couple of weeks behind on the group postings.... but fun comes first!)
I have the Smart Tire system on my coach.... but don't think I would get it again. As mentioned I am on my way to the factory at which time I will discuss the system to find out if I just don't understand it or maybe it doesn't work properly.
First, the max pressure it is designed to read is 127 psi. So if the front tires are set to 120 psi as per the manual and a few degrees of heat build up the pressure goes over the max capability. Second, the inside rears both give high temp alarms but the pressures are correct and in line with the outside tires. One would think that the pressures would build way up if the temp went up that high.
As I said.... it may be me but something isn't right. I'll know more after my visit with the creator.

Dick,

I have found the Smart Tire system to work great if programmed properly. The first thing you need to do is get the coach weighed, front to rear is ok but 4 point is prefered. Then you need to get a hold of Jon (or Rob) at Les Schwab 800-257-8430 and tell them what you have (02-40' Intrigue w/12R Toyos) and what it weighs. Once that is done they will put together a nice easy sheet to read which they will mail or fax to you. You will use this sheet to first let some air out of your overinflated tires (120 is to much for your coach with 12R tires) then re-program your Smart Tire so its syncronized with your tire pressure (which needs to be set cold).
Once this is done not only will your Smart Tire work properly, your coach will track and ride much better. Give it a try and let us know how it goes!

Damon....

Thanks very much for the tip. I visited Schwab yesterday and they took good care of me, programmed the unit, etc. They are very helpful and accommodating.

I forgot to tell them that you recommended that I go there but they gave me great service anyway.

Thanks again.
