Kwikee Steps

What areas do you lube? The tracks on each side? The motor and gears? All moving parts that slide in and out with the steps? Did you have to remove the bottom plate that protects the motor? I did slide underneath and was surprised how clean the area was. I did spray with Kwik Lube and the steps are behaving now but I do want to do a thorough job. Thanks for the pointers.

The Kwikee manual gives a pretty good diagram of the points that should be lubed.

I did slide underneath and was surprised how clean the area was. . . . . mine was dirty with road gunk so I used a pressure hose and cleaned it off well. also used the pressure hose on the slides and bearings before wiping clean and re-lubing.
I did spray with Kwik Lube . . . . We told not to use lubricants as they attract and hold grit and dirt. We were told white Lithium only and I don't understand why it doesn't attract and hold grit and dirt also.
It sure is greasy.

Hello All, I have posted a Cut Away simplified drawing of the stop bolt arrangement for series 42 Kwikee Steps in the file section. Its called "Kwikee Steps cut away.bmp" I am not a draftsmen so please don't be too critical. If you look at the drawing you can see why the steps start to squeak, the rubber is pressed against the 1/8 inch edge of the upper step that is bent under. This is like a knife edge that quickly cuts through the rubber and contacts the metal and starts to squeak. I am going to try and utilize the upper hole and adjust the stop bolt out enough to contact fully the inside of the lower part of the upper step.

Bill as Richard Aquino stated in his post (29068) you can secure the power to the steps by turning off the battery disconnect.

CCC gave a quote to the Warren Cat dealer that ripped mine off the coach. I have the quote at my shop but it seems like one of them was $68 and one $9?. If you look on the quickee web site they have a list of the distributors as I'm sure you don't need to go thru ccc.

It looks to be an engine fire salvage with most of the exterior intact, including the steps. Perhaps some of the 2004 owners might know if the Kwikee on this model is compatible with yours.

Paint codes

Kevin Waite was his usual knowledgeable and helpful self, and helped get me squared away on paint codes. I bought this coach with scratches on it (read "discount") and needing some other touch up, so have been on the hunt for a painter that will not scalp me. Out here in Plainview/Lubbock Texas the picking are pretty thin, but there are some great painters as long as the proper formulation is provided._
I called Kevin, who said the original paint supplier is API in Eugene, a Sikkens dealer. Called them, at 541-686-9946, and talked to Bill. He knew about our paint problems, and said the codes provided in our documentation are good Sikkens numbers. Bill referred me to another Sikkens rep in the Midwest, Reed Walkenhorse (sp?), 541-554-1434.
The Sikkens codes are a three digit number, followed by a letter and another figure, usually, and if my Sherman Williams guy here cannot match it successfully, I will get some proper stuff shipped in. If Sherman Williams has a paint code that is repeatable, I will post that here, just for more info.

Anyway, that is my story and I am sticking to it.
