CumminsISL-370--White smoke

I now have a consenus that the problem IS fuel related. The local Cummins people could find nothing wrong with the engine and they have corrected the hydr. fan overspeed which neither they, nor CC feel is related to the white smoke.I will get an additive to correct low ce- tane but don't inend to use it unless the problem recurs.I should be about out of the fuel I bought near Tulsa, so we'll see. Anyway, thanks for the input from all of you.

Walt..... what is your engine temp? I have a fan speed problem that is yet to be fixed. My engine runs both hot (215-216) and low (160-175). The over temp causes me heart palps and the low temp is affecting fuel mileage and power at speed and hill climbing.

I hope to get some answers from CC on Monday.

Dick, it was running about 160F which is too cool. A sensor was replaced and it is now running about 180/190--it's hard to be precise with the type gauge we have.

Walt,

Was the sensor a Cummins or CC item? Did your tranny run cool also? Mine does. So cool in fact that the fluid check through the selector reports that the tranny is too cold to read the level.

Dick, it was a CC item--at least Cummins didn't cover it under warranty. The tranny didn't run as cool as the engine but seemed a little cooler than usual. Both now run in the 180/190 range.

I have been working hard to understand the local lingo and even married a girl from California to hasten the demise of my accent.
Sad to say I still have trouble. Latest incident was in Eugene at the fairgrounds. I needed to make a long distance overseas call. We went into the pavilion to use a local pay phone. Like so many services these days everything seemed to be computer controlled and I was having a conversation with a memory chip. Try as I might I could not reach a live overseas ATT operator.
Believe me, I was speaking very distinctly using the English language but all to no avail.
The final straw came when I was asked to speak the name of the party I wished to call which I performed perfectly. There was a brief silence at the other end and then the computer replied "I'm sorry, I didn't understand you"?
I regret to say that at that moment I used several words not in either the English or American dictionary, thrust the phone into my wife's hands and said "You talk to the *#%#&* thing.
Naturally, when Karen spoke to the computer it understood and our connection completed. Maybe I just forgot to say "please".
Have you made it back to Corning yet? As I remember, The early snow would start about now in up state NY and then move south through the state. Better have those snow chains handy if you plan to stay any length of time.
