2002 Intrigue Galley Slide Water Leak

I have a significant water leak that shows up at the joint between the inside wall and the slide ceiling inside the small cabinets above the couch. CC says it most likeky is coming from a faulty seal along the inside top flange of the exterior wall. So far I have examined this seal with an inspection mirror and cannot see a problem. Before I de-tension the awning and conduct a complete exanination, I would appreciate any comments from other owners that might have had this same problem. Gary Stanton-Intrigue11467

I have a '97 Intrigue and experienced a similar problem with a leaky slide.

With your slide fully in, get yourself in a position to look down the slide where the seal is located on the panel that serves as the positive stop going out (it really isn't the stop because this is determined by the slide cylinder extension adjustment....but it appears to be). Mine came with a large bead of silicone applied where the rubber seal and the gelcoat on the top of the slide touch. I had to move the slide out beyond this "stop" to repair a problem I had with the lamination on the side unrelated to the leak.
In order to do this, I had to remove the "stop" panels with the seals which required removing the silicone. When I reassembled it, I didn't immediately reapply the silicone between the seal and the gelcoat. You guessed it! It rained rather heavily that night with a driving wind at an angle to the extended slide and the side of the coach. The rain blew into the opening between the slide awning at the forward end of the slide and leaked into the coach apparently under the rubber seal. The fabric on the slide interior sponged the water and distributed it in a number of places determined by the weight of the water at certain points along the ceiling. I looked down the inside of the retracted slide where I suggested you do on yours, and I noticed the rubber seal wasn't exactly flush with all of the gelcoat surface.
I applied a good grade of clear silicone that is compatible with rubber and fiberglass with a very wide bead where the seal meets the fiberglass on the entire length of the slide. I was in Florida at the time and experienced a number of driving rains afterwards with no leakage.
Now, it can be a trick to get the silicone in the right place, being that you are doing it mostly blind and have very limited access to the area behind the panel. I had my wife hold a mirror while I was caulking. I then smoothed it down with the old lick the finger trick and inspected all of it with the mirror. I had to add a bit to a couple of places, but it works fine. I wanted the slide out for the evening, so I put some plastic wrap on the length of the slide and moved it out, figuring it would add to the seating of the silicone. I removed the plastic wrap the next day and have had no more problems.

Country Coach must have had experience with leakage previous to my coach, or the silicone would not have been applied. Just my opinion.
