Hitch height

I've been trying to find a drop hitch that will get the ball down to the 17"-19" height recommended by our (Roadmaster) tow dolly manufacturer.

The most extreme drop hitch I've found (10") is still an inch or two too high - I haven't actually loaded up the car yet with the coach suspension at traveling height.

It looks like there will be enough clearance at the rear of the ramps but I'm wondering if the 'nose up' attitude of the tow dolly might adversely affect handling.

Any words of wisdom about this towing configuration?

The towed vehicle is a Rav4 - approx. 4,000 lbs.

I also looked at a Blue Ox product that provides a secondary hitch receiver that is 8" lower than the coach chassis hitch. Installing a 4" drop hitch in the secondary receiver would get me to the right level, but adds another foot or so to the length of the hitch setup.

Any thoughts on using the Blue Ox product? --

I tow a Wrangler with a Roadmaster5000 system. My bar is within an 1" or 2" and I have not seen or felt anything unusual. I do not like the tow systems where there is several connections between the coach and the TOAD, such as the BlueOx config that has a secondary receiver. I have witnessed a Wrangler being pulled by a nice 42' Monaco and the TOAD was swinging 2-4" side-to-side, due in large part to the extra connections in his system.
I have a small business building offroad bumpers and accessories for Jeeps, and I actually weld the Roadmaster5000 brackets directly to my custom bumpers to avoid the extra connections in the tow system.

There are plenty of opinions about whether to keep the tow bar attached to the coach or the TOAD and I won't start another debate, but I will tell you the Roadmaster5000 is a nice system that is easy to use.

Sorry that I do not have my papers/receipts with me but back in August I purchased a drop hitch that I think was 12". It was listed in the Coast Catalog and cost all of $50.

Sorry for not being clearer. The Coast Catalog is a paper catalog which you should be able to find at a local RV dealership/store. In fact, many dealerships have catalogs with their own names on the covers and I think those are the Coast Catalogs. I am pretty certain that the drop receiver that I purchased was made by Reese and had a drop of 11 or 12 inches. It works fine with my Allure 30493 and 98 Honda CRV. Hope that helps.
