AGM Batteries

AGM Battery Comment. I upgraded my 2001 Magna to Lifeline AGMs, as I did with my '98 Intrigue. I am able to have my Hurricane heat run all night without any problems even after running the television for a few hours. In the a.m. it takes about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to bring these batteries back to float. There is a change I had to make for the Link programming and I needed some help to lift the batteries because of their weight. All in all I would not go back to a flooded battery.
There is one thing I am religious about; if my wife wants to use the microwave I always start the generator. I do not like running that much of a load off the inverter and that battery bank.
With these AGMs, I enclosed the underside of the compartment and added a storage shelf. With conventional flooded batteries that would be a big NO-No.

Did you do anything to keep the air circulating in the inverter compartment after closing off the battery section?

Currently have 2 Lifeline AGM house batteries in my 03 Magna. I am going to add 2 more for a total of 4. The current AGM's were put in service 1 year ago. Do I mix them by adding 2 new ones ? Or do I put 4 new ones in ? Trojan now makes AGM batteries which are the same price as Lifeline. Any opinions as which to use, Trojan or Lifeline ?

I replaced my house batteries with the Lifeline batteries in '01 and they are still going strong. Alson replace the chassis battery with Lifline in '03. Check and see what the warranty on each is. Lifeline may have the better warranty.

My Lifeline AGM's got weak after a year and a half and Lifeline sent me two new ones right to my house with no questions asked. Good service the way I see it. It wasn't the batteries fault, previous owner never used them and was never off shore power.

In the best situation, all batteries should be the same age and of the same capacity. Seeing as how you have some that are only a year old, I would go ahead and install the new ones. That is what I would do in my coach. I have had good luck with the lifeLines and at this point I see no reason to switch.

Hi,

I'm considering making the switch to AGM(absorbed glass mat) batteries. I recall that a change has to be made to the converter/charger settings, but can't recall what it is. Is that written down and explained somewhere? Or, can someone give me a quick run down on what is required? I want to ensure nothing gets screwed up making the change.

On the inverter controller you should somewhere be able to select what king of batteries you have. Sorry I can't be more specific but I don't know which one you have.

One of the settings will be for "AGM". All you have to do is select that option. If you don't have the AGM, you can use the lead acid setting as the difference between AGM and lead acid isn't that great. I got this info from Concorde Battery who makes the Lifeline AGM. As far as I am concerned, the Lifeline is the one to have.

I installed Lifelines for the house and chassis in '04 and so far they have been great. They will charge 50% faster than your normal lead acid.

I changed to AGM batteries about two years ago. I had the change done at Buddy Griggs in Dallas, Tx. They reprogamed the inverter. The only problem I had was : they blew a fuse in the Harricane system (really blew two fuses). I had no hot water until I got to Buddy Griggs in Knoxville Tenn. They replaced the fuses (for thirty dollars each) . I have not had any more problems. They said they did not warranty work done at Buddy Griggs in Dallas. They said they only share a name. I thought that was odd, However I was glad to get hot water. No more problems.

Yes it is in the inverter manual. You change to AGM, I think it sets up for a higher charge rate.
