120 PSI in tag axle tires ?

Yahoo Message Number: 50609
The placard in my 2004 40' Allure calls for 120 psi in the front tires and the tag axle tires and 110 in the duals.
120 in the tag tires seems too high and apparently many of the heavier coaches don't require that much pressure in their tags. I'm concerned that over-inflated tags transfer too much weight to the fronts.

Any thoughts?

-Ken the whole tire pressure thing is the manufacturers not wanting to get sued , such as in the Firestone tire/Ford Bronco fiasco. When I took delivery of my 09Magna I had a real interesting conversation with the engineers at CC over tire pressures. Since they had gone to the same rated axles as Prevost, they decided to use the same pressures that Prevost uses.( that was their only rationale ) I told them I wanted my coach to be 6 point weighed,( with all our stuff on board ) which they did. Once we had that data I went to the Michelin tire/pressure charts and added a 5 to 7 # safety factor to the pressure per tire from the chart. Note you have to use the heavier of the 2 wheels (I E left or right front ) to select the pressure to use for that axle. I wound up with 105 front 95 driven and 85 tag. When I went over to Bob Dickman Tire to get my Smartire adjusted he wouldn't change it until I went through the analysis above. This is all about the people involved protecting their _ss. The above procedure is what FMCA follow, so you have to get your fully loaded coach weighed and look at the charts. Why else would the tire manufacturers develop the charts. They also have a safety factor built in, I'm sure.

Hi Folks

Please see msg 37201 for calculating the correct tire pressure and msg 34685 for the reason CC went to max placard tire pressure.
There is more if you search tire pressure kovol.
Tag pressure can be calculated by knowing the weight set up for the tag to carry.

This is a good example of an issue which should be answered with science but as you stated, it gets political because of the liability involved.
I went to the Toyo site and they post a big disclaimer telling everyone that they should inflate to whatever pressure the mfg. says. That way, they offload the liability.
