Dead Batteries

Thanks to all for your suggestions. I have managed to charge the house batteries up to snuff using a remote 12v charger, but have not been able to clear the error message on the Xantrex, Prosine 2.0 inverter charger. Talked with Xantrex again tonight and the latest and last thing to try is to remove all power source, AC and DC and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then restore power. If that doesn't work, inverter is history.
For those who have replaced inverters, what brand, etc would you recommend. I have not had a problem before with the Prosine, but maybe there are better units. Would appreciate any recommendations.

Gordan, you will probably have to disconnect the negative lead from the inverter to the batteries in order to actually remove all power.

Gordon, I think Xantrex makes the best inverters. However they make a number of models. You have a pure sine wave model. They also make (or made) a Freedom 458. This is a modified sine wave (I have hardly had a problem with a mod sine wave) but they are bulletproof. One question: do you have active ventilation in the inverter compartment if it is enclosed? If not, that will burn out inverters over time. CC did not always put fans in there in those days.

Gordon,

About two years ago, I replaced my Heart Freedom 20 (now made as the Xantrex 458) with a Magnum pure sine wave inverter. I understand that Magnum was a company started by a couple of engineers that had quit Heart when Xantrex bought them out. From what they had told me they wanted to build a better mouse trap. The Magnum works great for me. The only down side for the model I selected was it did not have the AC circuit breakers for the two house circuits built in. I had to install two AC breakers external of the inverter when I put the Magnum in. Everything has been working great since.
