Engine Shut-Down

We were stuck in a 12 mile traffic jam on I-75 in Florida, creeping along at an idle. Kept checking the engine temp gauge and the transmission temp gauge, with nothing unusual. The engine warning light came on - no place to get off the road. Then the engine shut-down light came on and we went into "limp" mode.
Coasted onto the berm, just as engine stopped. It took three re-starts to get to the exit, one mile away. The "low oil pressure" light came on during this process. Pulled into a Cracker Barrel parking lot and checked everything. Gauge temperatures OK, oil level full by dipstick, nothing appeared to have blown out of the engine.

It's a Cummins 350 ISC. We do not have Silverleaf.
After a short time, we re-started the engine and proceeded to drive the 45 miles (off of the interstate) to our destination. For the first few miles the "engine warning" light came on a few times, and the "shut-down" light blinked on and off about three times. For the last 40 miles of the trip nothing happened. Engine seemed fine, running normal, gauges normal.

Any ideas as to what happened, and what we should do next?

Replace the fuel filters before you do anything else. I had to limp home one time, and it turned out to be the filter(s).

I added a after market flap under the radiator that keeps the hot air from re-cycling when idling. Also, I open the rear door when I know it will run warm, steep grades Etc. I built a screen the covers the opening with quick release pins to check oil etc. Support arms are also installed to keep the door open at about a 45 degrees angle. All of the modifications can be found in the photo area. My coach is a 2002 Allure the same as yours. Good luck. John 2002 Allure

I had this problem a while back and it was the oil pressure sending units. If the rpms were kept up and the oil pressure the lights stayed off. The minute the rpms and oil pressure dropped warnings came on. Cummings center changed both sensors and all was well.
