Intermittent Generator Issue

I had a similar experience this Fall. I changed both fuel lines, but before I tried anything, I changed the fuel filter. I was not close to the hours to change the fuel filter, but I always change the fuel filter once a year, irrespective of the hours. That cured the problem.
I probably should have tried the generator before I changed the filter to narrow down the exact problem.(filter or hoses)
We did have an issue with a 8kw Onan this Summer in a Tiffin. The generator would run for exactly 2 1/2 minutes. The problem was the fuel pump. That is how long it took for the fuel filter to empty. If you hit the prime on the generator to fill the filter, again it would run for 2 1/2 minutes. Once we changed the pump, the problem was solved.
I think you may have answered your own problem...the 418 hours on the generator. The tech should have changed the filter after he did the hoses. You also should recheck to see if your fuel hose clamps are tight. If you prime the generator and it immediately starts, you may have a pump problem.

I guess the next step would be to change the filter and see if that fixes it. Good tip on priming to rule out the fuel pump.
