Boycotting Pilot Stations

I am no longer using Pilot stations. Their new policy is absurd: You have to go in, prepay and guess how much fuel you need. Then, if you are under, you have to go in, wait on line again for credit of the extra you paid! If you guessed wrong the other way and are under, you will have to go back in twice. They also charge a lot more for credit cards. Flying J does not charge extra for credit at the RV islands.

Are you aware that Pilot owns Flying J?

What will the future hold?

We gave up on truck stops a couple of years ago and now use Card Locks only. For the most part they are clean, easy in and out, almost never a line to wait in. We find their prices very competive too. It's fast and easy.

The past two summers, we have put over 25,000 miles on the coach. I have a Pacific Pride card and bounce prices between Flying J and PP. FJ is usually a bit cheaper but lately the FJ's I have been in have been the pits. The truck islands are not as well kept as in the past and I relate them to Pilot islands of past. I think the Pilot buyout has had some effect on the cleanness of FJ. I'll probably be usint the Pacific Pride statins more in the future.

I also have cut waaayy back on using the truck stops. I joined Pacific Pride and use them most of the time. I downloaded all their sites from POI Loader to my Garmin. Most, not all, of their sites are easy to get in and out of and most are fairly clean. I get out of my coach, slide my card, fuel up, and leave. No lines at the cashier and I've never had to wait for a pump to open up. I do most of my RV'ing in the western states and have always been able to fins a Pac Pride to get fuel.

FJ's not clean? I have to agree. The FJ RV dump and water fill has been closed in recent years at Brunswick, GA. Now this year, under Pilot ownership, the island is re-opened. Kudos for Pilot, right? I tried to get potable water. As expected, there was a sign for potable water a few yards from the sewer, but no water. I go inside and ask for someone to show me where the water is (locked underground?). They called somebody with a radio, but no body came. I go back inside and ask again. So, this time I find out why I couldn't find the potable water. It is right at the sewer, convenient for cleaning up and flushing. I reply to the guy inside that "You don't put potable water at the sewer." He says, well you can get it at the gas pumps from any of the spigots. They also charge eight bucks to use the dump.

No, I don't think Pilor knows anything about RV's or public health.

George,

My comments were for the fueling islands but I guess if the dump is a mess, why shouldn't the islands follow?
