OK, so I was just now operating on 110 shore power, 50 amp, and I noticed the battery strength as indicated on the Xantrex was going down. I ran the generator for about an hour, the battery charge reflected 100%, so I turned off the generator. As soon as I turned off the generator, the battery started going down at a pretty fast rate, in fact I could watch it go down about a percent a second. It dropped to 66% and seemed to hold steady. I turned on the inverter, and the battery strength started going up again. I turned the inverter off at 72%, I've had the 110 appliances off now for 10 minutes and the Xantrex battery meter shows the battery strength at 93%.
I'm baffled and any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Jerry, not sure, but sounds like bad batteries. To rule that out, charge your batteries fully. Disconnect hot cable from batteries. Measure voltage at battery post. Should be at least 12.8. Let them sit for 5 or 6 hours. Should still b about 12.8. If they drop much, they are bad or need equalizing. You did not state what kind of batteries you have.

I was reading the posts and recalling an event on our boat pretty much the same. As Rich states, was a "hot battery". Do a visual inspection and see if one of the sides of the battery has pushed out some. If the battery is hot to the touch on the sides. If that be the case "do not" attempt to start the coach. This is extremely dangerous situation.

I have the original Deka batteries which were installed in the coach when I purchased it new in August of '06. I would estimate they are 4 years old as the coach had been on the lot for a while when we purchased it. We have had no problems with them until now.
Over the night I was plugged into shore power but obviously nothing is flowing into the coach as I had to go to invert status about 10pm and by this morning my batteries had run down to 42%. I started the generator and they are now charging back up.
Once they are charged, I'll conduct the procedure you suggest and let you know what happens. ' Thanks,

It is entirely possible then that the batteries were heavily discharged and are bad. However, no AC flowing into the coach is a separate matter. That should be either transfer switch or a bad surge guard. I had a similiar problem and it was the latter.

On my last trip I had my Xantrex indicate a discharge on both AC hook up and generator. After pulling out some more hair, I remembered I did not increase the amps. from my 15 amp. service at home. As soon as I increased to 30 amp. on the Xantrex the charger was no longer shut down (load share).
