Leasve Coach Plugged In or Not?

Yahoo Message Number: 56198
James Smith was formerly employed as an Electrical Engineering Manager with CC, LLC. In a past Destinations issue, he shared some answers to commonly asked Basic Eectrical Questions. Here we share one such Question and Answer. Q) Do I leave my coach plugged in when I am storing it for extended periods of time? A) There are several answers to this question depending on extenuating circumstances that must be considered. Battery Type and the ability to monitor the battery electrolyte level, are key elements to the answer.
Do Not Plug In The Coach When: The batteries are wet cells and you will not be able to check the fluid level in them at least once every other week. Damage to the batteries can occur if they run low on fluid. Expect depleted batteries when you return after 15 days or more unless you disconnect the battery grounds to the coach. This disconnects the memory circuits minimizing the drain on the batteries. However, even when disconnected, the batteries will deplete due to self-discharge, so be ready for depleted battery levels after an extended storage time with no charge being applied to the batteries. (Note: A battery left at a depleted state of charge for extended periods of time will seriously damage the battery!) Plug In The Coach When: The batteries are wet cells and you will be able to check the fluid level at least once every other week, OR the batteries are an AGM type battery. This is the best scenario for these batteries because it keeps the charge up, and you should not have any battery failures when you go to get your coach out of storage.
