condenser leak

Yahoo Message Number: 57197
In addition to a noise in the fan under the dash, I have a hole in the condenser. I have looked through the two three ring books and can't find a description or name for the condenser on a 2000 Allure. I am conidering having it repaired. Has anyone had experience in having a hole welded? Would I be wasting my money in the long run to have it repaired? Is it any more likely to have more holes if it is repaired because of its age? What model number or specifications should I ask for if I look for a new replacement locally. (I am currently in McAllen, Texas in the Rio Grand Valley.) I can get the old condenser taken out and a new one put in and have the A/C recharged, etc. for a total of $220. That seems reasonaable to me. I just need to do something about the hole in the condenser repaired/replaced.

Having done A/C repairs on a sideline basis for a few years, it would be my opinion to replace rather than repair a condenser of that vintage, Unless there was actual damage due to a rock, etc. If the leak is due to age/deterioration then replace.

$220 sounds like a deal and I think will solve your issue?

Here is the company that made the dash air system. I assume they also supplied the condensor, but do not know for sure. At any rate, I'm sure they could connect you. The info on my coach was in the expanding file under 'over the road air'.
