Engine Heater/Tach/Motorhome Hieght

Yahoo Message Number: 61778
Can anyone address anyone or all of these ????

ENGINE HEATER-------- When we had our walk thru at CC-------- I was told to start the diesel, turn on the switch and wait for the speedometer dial to rotate all the way over to the other side and return, now it is OK to start. I was talking to a trucker, and he indicated that was incorrect, I should wait for the red heater light to turn off, and then start the engine. Which is correct ?????

TACHOMETER IN DASH ---------- Sometime my tach will indicate 3500 RPM when I am going 10 15 miles per hour. I even know that is incorrect.
Do I have a concern ??

HIEGHT OF THE MOTOR HOME-----------The yellow sticker above the gear selector indicates the height of the motor home is 12 foot 9 inch, not including the Air Conditioners. Does anyone know the height of the air condition to get a real total clearance of the motor homej?????

Thank You

Stan, I can't speak to your tach. problem, but it doesn't sound good. As to the starting proceedure, the trucker was correct. It isn't an "engine heater", but a glow plug status indicator. When the glow plugs are ready, the light goes out and the engine will start.
About the A/C's. To be sure, you may have to go on the roof and measure from the top of the AC's to really know the status on your coach. Many times I have seen solar panels mounted on top of The AC shroud, which can add 3-4" or so.

Stan:
1. Do what the trucker said - wait for the red light on the dash to go out, that's the glow plug. Especially in colder conditions, it will start easier.
2. The tach issue appears to somewhat common. Our coach usually gives what looks like accurate readings but occasionally will read very high as well. I just listen to the engine for info. I am pretty sure the system will not over rev and if it does, I will know it by the noise. Maybe one day I will get it looked at. I have checked it several times with the Silverleaf (on my laptop) and proved that the engine really isn't running at 3200 rpm. It's probably the sensor or the gauge.
3. Measure it yourself. It's the only way to get proven, accurate, information. Also, your satellite dish if you have one is probably higher. BTW, I thought that measurement on the dash INCLUDED the AC's?? Will have another look.

Richard, thank you for the information I requested. Regarding the MH height, if you look at the picture of the motor home that has the 12 9, the diagram looks like it only goes to the roof.
