Silverlead Reporting HP and Torque

Everyone, I spoke with Silverleaf. Here is how it works: as one of you said, the standard HP and torque curves for your engine are programmed into the Silverleaf. The SL then gets RPM and Engine Load (this is the key) data from the ECM and reports accordingly using the curves in the software but factoring in the actual load and RPM reported by ECM. The main thing to watch, they say, is the engine load. If you are never getting 100% engine load, there is probably something wrong with the engine. Another thing to watch is turbo boost pressure.

Well, they sure should know - thanks for calling them. Now, how does the engine ECM determine load? Could be throttle position versus time to increase rpm, then throw in fuel flow. Programmer's nightmare, still a lot of variables to get anything near accurate HP value tho. I was trying to say I don't rely on what it says (HP) to estimate engine problems - if the SL guy says it does indicate a problem, again, he should know.
And I agree turbo boost is a very, very important item to watch. If you know what is usual it should be easy to spot things like leaking connections or heaven forbid a leaking intercooler. Very useful info from the turbo. I think the SL products are great and appreciate them bringing them to the market. I love inventors although jealous I ain't that smart.

Mike, tubo pressure is just one of the dozens of data points available in the Silverleaf. You can see it when scanning the data or you can monitor it continuously on the the six way display screen. Did you get a manual with your coach? If not following is a link to the SL Manuals

Mike,

No fair asking hard questions!

You need to add it as an additional "gauge" as I recall. Go through the drop down menus, you'll find it. There are couple dozen possible gauges.
