1993 powertech generator

we are the proud new owners of a 38' Magna.
after a 3 hour drive home with the generator running fine, it stopped running after 30 minutes in the driveway. if it sits for a while it will start right up and has ac but turns off after 5 minutes.
I suspect it might be getting hot. I had antifreeze in the driveway the first time it stopped. there are no gauges for temp or oil I can find, but the fluid levals seem ok. stuck thermostat? I'm hoping to install tee fittings and mount gauges for both oil pressure and water temp this weekend. this is a powertech 6.6kw and I have no manual. if anyone knows what engine this is or has a manual please email me.

There should be a label on the generator with a serial number, you can then call Power Tech and give them that information and they should be able to help you with whatever you need. If you haven't checked the v-belt that drives the water pump and fan I would do that first.
Since you just got the coach I would recommend that you change the belt.

how do you get to that belt? it's all the way in the back. reaching in below the altenator the tension seems kinda loose to me. I talked to powertech and no go on the manual. they said it's too old. I tried googling and didn't find anything. if anyone has a manual for one of these and could scan it I'd really appreciate it.

this is a 1993 kubota 3 cyl.

it starts right up and makes power.. for 5 - 7 minutes then shuts down. wont start back up for an hour

turn off breakers at the generator and same thing I've removed the thermostat, same thing shot it with an infrared and without thermostat and head only only gets up to 160f before shutting down.
took out the temp sending unit and tested with an ohm meter there is no continuity between the 2 poles on the sending unit. likewise there is no continuity between either of the 2 poles and ground so I put the sending unit back in to plug the hole and left the 2 wires off of it. same thing ran 8 minutes and died.
if I manually hold the throtle open it will run after it dies.
the service manager at powertech said you can't jump the wires on these temp sending units and I'm wondering how it works. is the a certain amount of resistance that should be present? can I hang a resistor across the 2 wires and test it that way? is there a way to test the fuel solenoid?

Try hanging a 100 ohm resister across the two wires. If you have to purchase a resister you might get a potentiometer with a range of 10 to 1k ohms or higher and try that. Also Kubota tech service or parts should be able to help with that info.

While not as old, mine is a '99, it is likely not too different. When I had a similar problem, it was the temperature switch. I tested the switch in a coffee can with a thermometer, with the switch covered in water and placed on the stove. Turned on the heat and the switch actuated at 185 Degrees F. The switch is rated at 235 Degrees F. A new switch cured the problem.
If the switch is OK, then the Oil or fuel filters could be clogged. If these are OK, then I would be looking at the oil pressure switch.

I experienced similar problems and ended up replacing the fuel lines. Apparently they de-laminate over time restricting fuel flow and since replacing the lines and fuel filter have not had any problems.
