Galley slide rattles

Yahoo Message Number: 62523
Hi All,

The galley slide in our 2001 36' Intrigue #11238 "Evening Star" has developed a significant (and very annoying) rattle going down the road. If Kay pushes up on the overhead panel above the sink the noise stops. She is getting tired of standing there and holding it. The noise sounds like a slide stop is out of adjustment at the top of the slide. Is this possible? I have my toolbox ready, but before I start taking things apart, I thought I'd ask first.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Are there slide stops? Is it possible an external slide seal has gotten flat?
We have no leaks, the appearance of the exterior of the slide (gaps-alignment) seems unchanged.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Kay wants to sit down!

If the 36' is like the 40' you can just take off the long narrow cover panel, mine is fabric over wood, and see all that is back there. Their are many HWH things in there that can rattle. Since she can stop the noise it should be easy to determine the problem.

A question if I can?

I was unaware that there was any HWH 'stuff' in the top of the slide. Is this true? If so would there be something up there that is causing our slide to come in more slowly at the top than the bottom?

Just something I never considered.

We have a 2001 Allure and three years ago we were at HWH in Moscow Iowa . We had a broken link in the top chain that moves the slide. They had to remove all of the top covering over the sofa to get at the problem. Besides the chain there are two hydralic pistons up there and a long axle like rod which could rattle. There is alot of stuff in that area.

Good Luck

Bruce,

There are hydraulic hoses and cylinders behind the cornice moulding up top and more down below the couch behind the carpeted panel. There is also an equalizing cylinder down in the LP gas bay right above the LP tank. That is the cylinder that is responsible for making the top and bottom of the slide move in and out at the same rate. I had to have mine replaced 3 yrs. ago, because the top of the cornice moulding started digging into the ceiling panel while retracting the slide. I think I was told that CC only used this set-up for the '01 model year.

Thanks for the info Dave. I've had dealers look at the slide and received all sorts of answers. Now I have a lead on where to go. Trouble is now finding a tech to do the work.

This is why this forum is so great.
Thanks again to all who have enlightened me. Too bad I'm not handy enough to do the work myself.

Hello All,

Well, I found some of the problem today. I removed the trim panel as suggested and in the process actually found the crown moulding to be VERY close to the ceiling light box frame. I had Kay drive while I diagnosed. I found the moulding actually bumped the lightbox frame and the noise transfered throughout the ceiling area. I found the moulding to not be attached properly and fixed that, solving about 95% of the problem.
I have yet to determine the reason this issue has just come up after 10 years and 60M miles. I still suspect the exterior slide seal is giving up, allowing the upper section of the slide to come in fractionally further.

Any opinions are appreciated and thanks to all who responded.
