Allison 3000

Need help with my transmission selector panel. At idle in neutral the display shows slashes. By pushing the drive pad the transmission does shift but still showes slashes. I cannot get dianostic to work by pressing pads, they are either blank or show slashes. I had engine and transmission warmed to try tests.
Can anyone help, thanks

The easy thing to try is a complete re-set. Disconnect all power, coach batteries, etc. Wait a couple of minutes and turn power back on and try again. Have heard of the power supply going out in the control module causes problems. Hope it is not that as it gets costly. There is some company in Texas that does a rebuild for around $350.

Have a pdf file for trouble shooting. It is quite involved with meter readings etc. Could try to send it if you could use it.

When mine does that I shut down the engine for a minute and the pad resets. All is well again.

I have now had some 7 months driving my Allure and have found that driving at 50 mph (dual carriageway HGV limit in UK) that the box stays in 5th even in Econ mode. Get to 53/54 then she goes to 6. The PO said he noticed the same and was thinking about getting the box reprogrammed to go into 6 at 50mph.

Anyone had this done or have a comment?

Micheal The ECM programming of the engine / transmission shift points are optimized to keep the engine in the optimum fuel economy /optimum torque conditions. Without looking at the torque for your engine, I would guess that 50 in 6th would be well below the desired torque range, and therefore use more fuel. By running in Economy Mode, the ECM will adjust the shift points, but if you are in any sort of hilly terrain, you will get better economy in Regular not Economy mode. I would suggest you not mess with the settings in the ECM. You would have to be smarter than the programmers that have a lot of data

Thanks Ron, the reason I was looking was that the mpg at 50 is less than at circa 55! So traveling along a reasonably flat road cn see my mpg jump from circa 7.5 to well in excess of 8 and for an increase in speed!I take on board your comments about mode settings in hilly terrain and will check that out too.

I believe the real issue is that these coaches are geared to run 65mph give or take a little. I have found that running slower keeps my coach in 5th and/or when I hit hills it lugs down until it finally shifts to 4th. Te gear spacing of the Allison is much closer between 6th and 5th than 5th and 4th with 5th intended as the hill climbing gear at highway speed.
