Water check valve

Yahoo Message Number: 62939
I previously posted that my check valve stuck closed and would not let city water in. I freed it up. Now, it leaks when I am not connected and my pump empties my tank going down the road. So I am going to change it. But I cannot get it out of the plastic housing. How do you get it out? It has to come out towards the front, as there is a washer on the outside that prevents it from going in. But how? I hit it with a rubber mallet, but it won't budge. I am afraid I am going to break the plastic and then what would I do?

Al,

There is a plastic plate that has your city water hookup and another place so you can add water by gravity feed. There is also a vent hose attached. Remove the 4 screws and pull the plate towards you. There isn't a lot of slack to work with. On the backside of the plate, you will see the cheap plastic check valve in between your hose connection (on the outside) and the coach side of the water hose. Just unscrew the coach side and then remove the plastic valve.
My suggestion is to replace it with a brass check valve made by Camco and not fool with the cheap plastic one.

Somebody has got to help me! I have a brass-body water check valve that I cannot figure out how to get off of the plastic assembly.
My water input has a locking door, is held on with 8 screws, has the hose connection/check valve on the left and a manual fill with cap on the right. When I took it off, I see the brass check valve. It sits between two plastic raised pads that keep it from turning. On the front, between the plastic wall and the female hose fitting is a metal washer. The washer is TIGHT against the plastic. Somebody out there ever replace this and can tell me what to do?

Al,

There are 4 years between our coaches but I faced the same problem a year ago. In my case the brass check valve had split and it leaked. I was in Charleston, SC so I called a mobile tech that I have used a number of times and I trust him completely. He removed the housing with the locking door and the minute he got it free he new immediately what the story was. The brass assembly is molded into the housing when manufactured and cannot be removed. He went looking for a replacement compartment. He eventually found one but it was 1/2 inch bigger all around. He said that we would have to cut a bigger hole in the sidewall to accommodate it. I agreed as there is nothing in the way. I should mention that he had a separate check valve that we installed temporally through the opening to get me by until I could get the replacement done.
Unfortunately he came down sick and in the end I had to do it myself but it worked out just fine. If your coach has a similar problem finding a replacement compartment is going to be the worst part of the job. I tried everything but could not get the brass valve out. Now I know why. Actually I hope that yours is not the same.

Good luck with it.

I replaced the whole thing, the door assembly comes with the shore water connector and check valve plus filler. Cost was around $35 for whole assembly.
