found cracks in the fiberglass sidewall of 05 magna.

Hi I just came from the Paint Department in Chino, ca where I was advised my luck has run out. I have cracks in the drivers side fiberglass wall on my cc 05 magna. Has anyone else have that problem? I was shown a coach where the fiberglass has been stripped down to repair the problem. A $ 20,000 repair job. Anyone else have this problem? don shw

Don,

Describe in more detail the appearance of the cracks. Are they a lot of small raised cracks about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch long or are they much longer than that? Do the cracks appear mostly in the dark painted areas? If they are short micro cracks, as they have become know as, then yes many of us have the problem. It is a defect in the fiberglass wall panels with a long history. If the cracks are longer then it is something else that is less common.

Yes, most of the cracks are very small with several longer ones. It seems that you cannot see them in the morning, but late afternoon they show up very well in the striping. What do you do about it? don shaw 05 magna #6381

Hopefully they were discovered before there was any water damage. I found mine only after someone with an 05 Magna mentioned it to me last spring. I had one that looked to be an inch long at the bottom rear corner of the front passenger side slide opening. My other cracks were on the roof at the back where I stepped when getting off the ladder.
Although smaller, the crack on the side wall was the most serious as it ran behind the trim molding to the area where the bay doors are hung. Thankfully, water had not yet got through either of them.
We had both cracks repaired at Oregon Motor Coach in Eugene. As you would expect they did a great job doing the repair and matching the paint. They suggested installing a rubber coated steel plate where I step on the roof which we did. In the end, the cost of the repairs were lower than they had estimated.
While we in the shop we saw an newer Affinity that had a long crack and major water damage. Their bill was estimated to be around $35,000! Jim Myers
