Starter relay

My coach has developed a starting problem, some times I turn the key and nothing happens. I suspect it may be the starter relay. The problem, I can't find it. If some one knows where it is, I would apprisiate the help. Dick 96 CC intrigue 10203

Hi Check the wires on the back side of the key for tight. This was my problem which sounds the same as yours.

On my 99 intrigue it is behind the passenger side knee panel and I think it is behind silver panel.

Try jumping out the 2 relays in the system, one up front (located in a prior e-mail) and the other one in the right rear of the engine compartment. If the relays are not your problem then check all the starter wiring connections for good contact, remove each wire and clean ends and also make sure you have good ground connections. This should solve your problem.

Your problem could also be caused by a starter solenoid going bad. It is located on the starter itself.

OK, I have changed out the relay under the dash, checked the wires on the switch. since the problem was intermittent I have to wait and see if it happens again. If so, I guess the next step is to the garage to clean all the connections. This is one job I don't attempt any more.

Many coaches have TWO starter solenoids, the one you mention, and another on the lower right wall as you look into the engine bay. If one has burned contacts, maybe the other does too. I bought an extra (less than $20) to keep on hand to replace the one of the pair I have not changed out - yet.
Symptoms were having to hit the battery boost switch, and one of the last times, in a bank parking lot, start the generator to get enough electrons to kick it over. If that happens to you, change them out, or look for loose or damaged wires.

If the coach doesn't act up on a regular basis, I would suspect the relay mounted in the engine compartment. It is located on the right side, down kinda low. When the coach acts up, go back there and give the relay a couple of good whacks with an insulated object.

Mine went south and I took it apart to find it full of water.
